MILITARY-strong lock up or not?

Have seen comments on both sides, strongest lock and fails easily. Which is it? Are there older Military models-or new-that are weaker? I know the older ones had ATS-34 blades but that doesn't have anything to do with the lock. Sal, any patterns of complaints or defects that you have seen, and what is the liner material? Any mods in the works for the Military? Thanks in advance, Ron.

I have had 3 Militarys and all of them locked up just fine. The 3rd one had a bit of vertical play against the liner but I adjusted it and it is just fine.

I think it is a reliable liner lock.

With the Military and Starmate I believe that Spyderco has some of the best production liner locks on the market.

I can only speak about my Military. It locks up very well. It sits on the left 1/3 of the blade tang. No vertical play, minimal side play when locked. I have no complaints regarding the Military I own. Great knife!

My ATS34 Military exhibited a rather rapid advance of the liner lockup position across the surface of the blade tang ramp in the first month or so I used it. I sent it back for adjustment and it came back with the liner locking up on the left edge of the ramp. The action was a bit stiff. After a bit of opening and closing the action smoothed out and the liner traveled about one quarter to one third of the way across the ramp in the open and locked position. It has remained there for about the past year despite daily and sometimes rough use. The spine whack test causes it to lock up a little tighter. I have never been able to compress the liner with my grip and cause it to unlock. Twisting or torquing the knife as I cut hasn't caused a failure either. I feel very confident that this is a very reliable liner lock.
