Military style sheath of Nighthawk

Sorry to post this if it's already been reviewed.

Have a nephew who's being deployed to Iraq in September. I'm sending a full-sized Buck Nighthawk with him as a gift. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to get a military-style sheath for a Nighthawk? Does it need to be one that can be worn on the pack harness as well as on the belt?

I was an infantryman in SE Asia while I was in the service, so I'm long out of the loop on what a versatile knife sheath would be.

Thanks so much for your help.

Keith

your nephew could probably benefit more from a smaller blade and or something with a seatbelt cutter. most of the fighting is urban shooting and ied's are more likely than having to fight hand to hand with a knife- and a big blade is just too cumbersome for everday small tasks. IMHO

Hopefully Goose (aka Buckaholic) will jump in here. He uses a Spec Ops sheath for many of his Buck fixed blades.

Here ya go, my fellow 11B, Snowdude...

As Messy stated, I'll chime in. ;)

The Spec-Ops "Combat Master" sheath is outfrickin'standing!!!
Here it is with a NightHawk and another pic of it with an Intrepid.

This is the short version of the sheath. There is a screw at the bottom of the sheath that, I believe, holds in the plastic insert. The Nighthawk tip barely clears it to one side of the screw...but, as you can see, it fits. Keep in mind that the sheath I have is the SHORT...for 6 inchers. There is a 8" model...and I "think" the price is the same.

The ONLY down side is the price...like plus 30 bucks. BUT, I am pretty certain it will last.
I especially like the split-loop design.

Do a Google search on "Spec Ops Sheath" and you will see several places to get one. I got mine from a company that sells "LA police gear" (hint...hint)...received it within 5 days of ordering it.

Thanks so much, Br'er Goose. I've ordered stuff from LA Police Gear before. I'm a 35-year deputy sheriff in Indianapolis. The Nighthawk I have is one of the early ones made from the 425M steel. I sent it back in and the friendly folks at Buck put the E2K re-profile on it. Nice blade.

Corpsman...I was thinking maybe a full-sized Nighthawk was a bit too much of a good thing. Maybe the shorter Nighthawk, or a different blade would do him better. He's a cannon-cocker, and I got him a Buck 889 SBMF folding blade when he got out of AIT at Ft. Sill. He's headed to Polk now for MOUT, then to the NTC, before deploying.

Appreciate everyone's help.

Keith
