Just wanted to try to pin down which changes to the Military made the five projects for this year.

1. Centofante designed sliding lever to lock the locking bar. (securelock?)

2. Smaller Military? Hopefully not smaller than a 3.25" blade with a 3" cutting edge.

3. Rolling Lock for either of these models.

4. I assume we're sticking with 440V as Sal said he could order enough to get it. If something goes wrong can we move to 420V and not backup in steel grade.

5. I like the uncoated clip, but I can go with the black one. Doesn't make a lot of difference one way or the other.

I think the Sebenza and the Military are the two best production folders made. And I like the Military best.

Just wanted to find out what my choices are going to be.

Pleased to read that you resharpen, I was not aware of this until today.

Yeah I'm crazy, but what do you want me to do about it

Sal, Can you give me a rundown on the different variations blade coatings, steels etc on the Military to date?

Hi Bobby - do you mean all the Military models produced to date including the discontinued models? If so, I'll take a stab at it:

ATS-34: plain and serrated, was available with both satin finish and black blades. Has since been discontinued.

CPM 440V, "first generation": plain and serrated, was available in satin finish and black blades.

CPM 440V, current production: plain and serrated, satin finish only.

There are one-offs that exist. I recall Sal showing me a carbon fiber handled Military at last year's Blade show. And he has posted something about tinkering around with Military models with Dendritic steel blades.

Hope this helps!

Dex,

I think I the Military's are going to be in Boye Dendritic Cobalt, because the BDS did not fare so well.

And I think the plan was for the BDC Military to have carbon fiber handles, and maybe Rolling Locks.

One may want to keep an Eye out for my review of the Bob Kasper designed, Kevin Gentile modified AFCK and interview of Bob Kasper. Sorry about the wait, my review and interview should be online shortly, luckily Spark has graciously offered to do the pictures, look for it right here at BladeForums.com.

Dex,
could you, Sal or Danelle PLEASE quickly explain the difference between the "first generation" and the current production Military models (both using CPM440V blades)? I want to know how I can differentiate between the two by just looking at them...

Heyns:

The most obvious difference between the current Military and the previous generation is in the choil (the juncture where the blade meets the handle). In the older model, the choil area was notched, same as on the spine behind the thumb hole. In the current production version, the choil area is left smoooth. There are several other differences that are less obvious from a distance.

Thanx guys, I think you've got it covered. I believe there were 7 carbon fiber PROTOS made, several in Blue G10 and at least one in red G10. A whole lot of plastic and wood models to refine ergonomics.

I'll take one of the blue and the red one off your hands if they're, y'know, cluttering up your desk drawers.
