I already have an older Military, but I think I want a newer one with S30V. Swamp Rat Knives has a new folder out called the Rat Trap that appears very similar overall, even using sort of an opening oval instead of thumbstuds. I'd really like to know how these knives compare over all anyone with experience with both please chime in.

Rat Trap is very thin - 13/32" almist 2Dimentional, thiner then Military I think, and it has steel liners embeded inside G10 scales. It is light also, I am not sure is it lighter then Military or not. Handle is more curvier then Military and blade is bit wider but overall they are pretty similar. It is bit more expensive and I wait for my LE more then 8 weeks. Here it is with Manix and Buck Strider:

blade is 1/8".

Thanks, Vassili.

I don't think it is a real copy, from that pic. But they definitely took a good hard look at the Millie before they designed this. If they added a full flat grind and integral choil, I'd say it was a copy. Does it cut or lock better than a millie?

Take a look at the Busse Active Duty fixed blade, it is a folding version of that.

Exactly what I was going to say. Hardly a copy of any Spyderco.

Thanks for the blown up pic I can see they are similar moreso in philosophy (Big, Tough, thin, light knife) than overall design now.i The Rat Trap appears to have a high saber grind vs. Millie's full flat. Oval vs. Hole. Curved Military blade vs. Rat Trap straigher blade. Lower ride clip for rat trap, but thicker blade for millie. It seems you could go on finding subtle to significant differences in the design of these knives ad nauseum. I do think I will give the Rat Trap a dance however. One thing the Rat Trap certainly has going for it NO THUMBSTUDS!!!!!!!!!!! And whether the RT was an attempt to make a Swamp Rat Military or not doesn't really matter, visual association with one of the finest and most proven folders out (the Military) can only be viewed as an assest to a Swamp Rat's first folder. ;)

Sweet!! I have the Buck Strider picture and although it may be as tought as folder come I never carry it. I'm not a LEO and just don't see the need in all that weight and bulk, the RT looks like it would be very comfortably and thin, I like the low ride clip. Now if i carried tip up and had a spyderhole instead of oval and a full flat grind it may be the perfect knife, I'm always trying to mentally improve every knife I see. ;)
