Always craving for the best darn lube in the world to give my knives that little extra bit of "ultimate smoothness", has led me to Ballistol. To this date, its the best Ive found for the job. Now reading along the balisong forums, I hear of Militec-1. I'd like to hear everyones opinions on the stuff. I would have gotten some at a gunshow this past weekend, sadly, I managed to miss it

I've often pointed out that nobody knows more about lubricating folding knives than a balisong artist. In three minutes, I can cycle the joints on my knife more times than even the most dedicated "flicker" can in a month and probably more often that the average user will in a year. I don't hear the average folder users complaining about breaking the pins in their knives, or about the joints getting hot. Militec-1 has become the prefered lubricant for balisong artists. I now use it on my conventional folders too.
It works best if you gently warm the joint to be lubricated. I use a hair dryer. Get it just warm to the touch. I apply a couple of drops of M-1 and work it in gently. Then, I let the knive sit overnight before cleaning off any excess. It often takes several treatments before things really get nice.

After about the third or fourth treatment of my AFCK, the next time I opened it, I paniced thinking the ball on the liner must have broken off. That's how smooth this knife has become.

I've tried Tetragun, Tuff Glide, White Lightening, etc. Militec-1 is the longest lasting lubricant for balisongs and for regular folders.

Think W!

Ok, I can't convince my dad that Miltec-1 is superior to motor oil(he's old).

Would you say that it's well worth the money? ($5 an ounce)

How long does an ounce last?

I've tried TuffGlide too, but Militec-1 is hands down the Best "lubricant" out there. It actuall chemically bons to metal and stiffens it by a factor of 17 without affecting hardness. See their website for a detailed explanaition. I use it on everything: firearms, folding knives, around the house. In fact, my wife cuts my boys' hair with trimmers, and they used to get too hot to the touch using the supplied trimmer oil. I treated them with Militec-1 and they hardly get warm any more. It's great stuff!

Have to agree. Been using Miltec-1 for a few years to rust protect throwing knives. I bond it to the knife by putting it on one surface then baking the knife in a oven on WARM (about 120 deg. F not warm enough to affect the temper of the steel) for about an hour. Then I turn the knife over and do the other side. Has kept many a throwing knife rust free for years without my having to do anything but wipe them off after use.

Well, last night in chat someone told me that Militec was chlorinated, which to me means BAD for my stuff. So I ordered about a gallon of ballistol

While ive never actually heard of someone corroding steel with a chlorinated solvent or parrafin, I'd rather not use that stuff on my knives. If I can spot a 1 oz sample at a gunshow I'll try it out though.

Well, I convinced my dad to try some, even though it degenerated into whining at the end.

Anyone know were you can get it cheap, cause most places aren't carrying it and its website is obviously not discount.

I admit I am low on money even though the set only costs $20.
