Millie had a fall thursday after reaching the bottom of the stairs. she couldn't stand up again.
had the vet out, he thought she'd sprained a muscle, so she was on pain pills till this morning.
they didn't really help. called the vet back out, he decided to take her for an xray this afternoon.

worst possible news. she had a bone tumour just below the hip, it weakened the bone there & it broke.
inoperable. he figured it had likely spread anyway. to avoid waking her to more pain and a trip home
for a couple of painful days where she couldn't move to go out for a wee or poo wouldn't have been
fair to her, so i had him send her on the final journey while she was still sedated.

i said goodbye over the phone.

she was a very good girl, and a very good racer in her day.

i miss her terribly already.

We had a similar thing happen with Mabel, a 10y+ rescue basset, so I share your pain.

We have managed to replace her already with another rescue basset, Agatha.

They are waiting for us at The Bridge.

My condolences.

Sorry to hear this my friend.....
Smoke and prayer for her journey and for your grieving heart.
She got to be just a dog because of you. A much loved friend, family member and companion. A dogs life as it should be.

some good news. the apt. complex i am living in now is owned/maintained by the local council, they have a current policy that we can have a pet when we move in, but when it passes we cannot replace it.

millie has made good use of her three days in asgard, impressing odin with her speed and rabbiting skills, and he has convinced the nornir to reweave the skeins of fate. this morning i received a news letter from the council indicating their plans to implement a new policy whereby we all can have a pet, if we sign up to a 'pet care plan'.

i am hoping that will come into effect sooner rather than later. there are doggies out there in need of forever homes.

i've got enough years left to train another for asgard for when i too cross over the bridge to meet my friends once more. the fact that this news arrived this morning, arising after three days over the easter weekend is prophetic i think.

Seems like one of those "A door closes, and a window opens" situations.

No replacing, but some comfort.

My analogous situation was...rending. Hope yours goes smoother.
