I was looking for a Miller Bros thread where this may fit but didn't find one - if there is one already I'll at least post a reply to put it up there in the category. If there hasn't been a thread on just Miller Bros I would be glad to start it.. have a couple others I can post as well.

Picked this up not long ago and honestly pretty happy to have it in my collection :D ... jigged bone handles and a lockback as well - haven't seen too many Miller Bros lockbacks in any style. I think the bolster at the pivot is iron and the lower bolster nickel silver. Knife measures 9 1/2 " open and 5 3/8" closed. It is in pretty good shape and only a very small tight pin crack on the backside of handle - lower pin near the iron bolster... (took me awhile to find it). Blade is tight and snaps pretty well open and you definitely hear the lockback click in place. There was some pitting on the blade that is evident in the right light but not terrible, and no doubt it had been sharpened at one time or another - but not too aggressive. It is pretty slow on the close... will lubricate the joint soon and see if that helps. It was cleaned pretty well when I found it and haven't done anything to it yet but I will lube the joint and give it a light coating of Ren wax. I haven't seen another like it so please post them up if anybody has another Miller Bros Hunter. If I'm not mistaken it is the one I see on page 188 of Levine's 3rd edition book. Any comments - observations etc appreciated  (PS - still not sure I am uploading photos correct from photobucket so will try flickr)..

Cheers
Lee

Welcome, Lee!!:D You definitely know how to make a grand entrance. Your Miller Bros is a sight to behold. The bone on it is exquisite! Nice full blade as well! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to see your other Miller(s).

A cool looking knife. When I see a knife like this, I can't help but wonder about the miles its traveled, the things it cut for its owner and the conversations and history it has been privy to....makes ya wonder.

Thanks guys! Actually Gevonovich my first post was an old frosolone sfilato.. figured after that one I should show something nice ;) and promise to post some more when I take the pics... and Tx-planes - agree with you 100% - I love blades with history, stories, character etc - when they are not perfect they have a good story somewhere - unless they have been hit with a grinder LOL...

Cheers
Lee

That's an impressive piece. and, at 5 3/8" it's large impressive piece. Very nice and very nicely worn.

Outstanding! That is a well used, but also well cared for knife. That was allowed to age naturally, and it is a beauty.

Thanks for sharing with us!

I agree with everyone who has commented- and they know what they are talking about!
That knife is a beaut - and would be a welcome part of anyone's collection - to have this "cleaned " would be a sin...cleaned as in polished etc...and from what you are saying that wont happen, all I would do is work - and really work the Joint with copious amounts of Mineral Oil - it wont hurt at all - that will help - you could even use a WD40 can with those little plastic extension squirt nozzles and get that into the joint and work it big time, repeat that process a few times, then introduce your Mineral Oil into the joint - you will be surprised how much gunk will come out!
I love looking at that wonderful knife, thanks for showing us!

Here is a Miler Bros Jack, and a Miller Bros HJ, both are absolutely splendid knives.....as Miller does......

Nice knives, Lee, and Duncan. Such beautiful old bone there!

Here's a big old rope knife from Miller Bros.

It's a knife for a sailor, but I wouldn't want to fall overboard with this anchor in my pocket :D

Duncan and R8shell

What a pleasure to view these artistic specimens!!

Just a beauty, R8shell!! :thumbup::thumbup::D

nice lock back! I've got a big (5 3/8") folding hunter, but not a lock back.

Thanks, Gev!

Nice looking rope knife there, George. It looks like the tang stamp is different on mine than yours. Mine is a straight line rather than arched. I don't know if that makes it older or newer, but it's possibly the rarest knife in my humble collection.

Thanks for the comments guys - and more so thanks for posting those other beauties Campbellclanman,r8shell and george65!! Classic Miller Bros for sure - the jacks and the ebony handled Hunter are beauties as well as those sailor's knives for which they were so well known (in fact I think they had the Navy contract for WWI) - those 2 sailor knives are prime specimens - even have the brass eyebolt on bottom which many are missing when you see them come up for sale! From what I understand they are hard to date from the tang stamp being either curved or straight. Got to get a few pics of my few others tomorrow and post them - one an equal ended jack with perfect jigged bone handles and the trademark brass screws - needs a bit of a very light cleaning as I got it not long ago. It still looks pretty good except for the backside of the pen blade where believe it or not there is a small line of grind marks midblade under the swedge but even the grind marks have a patina... hmnn... oh well must be a story there ;) Keep'em coming - cool thread!

Lee

Another Miller Bros but an Equal-End Jack- jigged bone handles (actually perfect - no cracks on either side) with brass screws, nickel silver bolsters, nice long match stick pull on long blade - 4 /1/4". Basically the same but slightly larger than the one in Levine's 3rd edition on page 146 - in fact shield is the same as well. Still needs some cleaning and getting to it as I can - still not sure what to do with sharpening scratches that were on the knife from a past life but really want to keep the patina. At the moment I am still getting crud out of the long pull but wanted to throw it up on the board here ;-)... As an aside - has anybody ever seen a Miller Bros Whittler?? I haven't seen one as of yet and can't imagine that Miller Bros didn't make one... does anybody have one of their old catalogs? I have one more Miller Bros that I will try and get on the thread in the next week or so but would love to see some other Miller Bros knives if folks have them..

Lee

Welcome Lee, those are outstanding knives, beautifully photographed

Duncan, a pair of beauties my friend

r8shell, now THAT'S a Rope Knife, lovely to see it again

George65 - Your Folding Hunter is a classic, all great-looking knives

Hi Longblade! I just acquired a Miller Bros. 3 blade over the weekend! The handle is bone with the "Miller Screws". The Main blade is 2 1/4 inch in the bayonet style. The other 2 blades are 1 1/4 inch pen style but very narrow. The snap is incredible, just like new! I don't know if it qualifies as a whittler, but that is exactly what I will use it for. The handle pattern is in the "tuxedo" family. The overall measurement is 3 and 1/2 inches. I would love to post a few pics but don't know how. Any tips?

Hey stick-stuck - sounds like a nice knife but like you said photos are best... I would look under FAQs for info - some use Photobucket - some use Flicker - either way the link to the photo needs a URL before and after... sorry I am not the best at explaining this but hopefully somebody will come along with the right info and/or a link for you for photo posting info... most sites I just upload photos from my own computer but here you need a link (again like photobucket) if I understand correctly to put in a photo... Took me awhile to figure it out as well :)
