Does anyone use one on their Millie? Having the KW exclusive I was thinking about a lanyard and wondered if because it's tip down that folks don't add one?

I never added one to my old Millie but have on the two para's I have.

I seldom use lanyards anymore. I live a long way from enough water to lose a knife in, and I'm too old to be working aloft anymore.

I do, and the larger lanyard hole makes it a piece of cake to build one that can easily be removed. I have recently grown fond of having one on regardless of tip up versus down. Takes about 2 sec to build one, try it out?

Wait...... I thought a lanyard. Was to be used instead of a clip.... I don't use one just wondering.... Thought you pull on it cuz you have the knife, unclipped, down in your pocket. So you clip it, with a lanyard??

I have a paracord wrist loop/lanyard on my in the bush mille. I can loop it around my belt or a pocket button if I'm doing something energetic or silly.

Lanyards appear to have four purposes. One is just as an accessory, one is to more easily draw your knife and one is so you don't drop your knife. I don't like flair, I don't need help deploying a blade and I don't have the time or patience to put a lanyard around my wrist when I am using my knife. The fourth use is to make a smaller knife more handfilling and for me this is a valid use. I have small fobs on my Ladybugs and it does provide a more handfilling grip. Otherwise I find them annoying on all other knives. I don't even use them on large knives or machetes.

It depends on whether you are talking abour lanyards or fobs. Lanyards are cords used to secure a piece of equipment to something else to prevent loss, typically tying it one's person. A fob is a short bit of cordage used as a decoration or grip extension. Ninety percent of what people call lanyards are actually fobs.

I agree with you Yab about the difference between a fob and a lanyard but unfortunately most don't. Even Spyderco calls their fobs that they sell with the beads on them lanyards even though they are actually fobs. I guess the knife industry and community has decided it isn't neccesary to differentiate between the two.

Yep, that's the Internet. Propagating misinformation at the speed of light. Wonder why people keep getting arrested in NYC for carrying a pocketknife? It's because people don't bother to keep words connected to their proper meaning. They use the wrong term because they don't care enough to use the right one, and pretty soon the original meaning is lost. That's how all those ordinary folding knives magically became "gravity knives".

Anytime I would be anywhere close to a lake, stream or any other body of water I will be utilizing one of my lanyards for my hallowed M390 Military model. I've lost a couple of Spyders that went overboard in a big lake and I'm not going to let that happen again if I can help it. That's why I won't use any of my Dyad models around a body of water because it would just be way too heart breaking to lose one of those.

Now I do agree that there would be times when a lanyard would just be excess baggage and really get in the way of what you're using it for. But after the loss of about 6 of my favorite Spyders I'm just not going to take a chance anymore.

I've even looked into getting one of those spring loaded, retractable key chain type devices for working around water while fishing and so forth. It is just too gut wrenching to lose a really nice Spyder. To me it's almost as bad as losing a really good dog you've had for years.

I dropped my Harpy into a log jam on the Skykomish river. A lanyard would have saved me two hours of crawling around under 1000 pound logs.
Recovered it but damn.

6 Spyders!?!?
If I lost my M390 Millie id jump in after it!

No I didn't lose my M390 Military ( THANK GOD!!)>> because if I did I would have to go to my Doctor to get on a super heavy dose of Prozac ( or something like it):D. But I have lost or got stolen two of my Merlin models, one VG-10 Spyderhawk, A G-10 Harpy and a VG-10 Police model. I'm still grieving over those>> I've even thought about joining a support group :D>> No if I lost my M390 Military they would probably have to put me on suicide watch :D>> just kidding :p But my M390 Military is my main EDC and has been for a while now. It would be like losing one of my C-60 Ayoob models. That would also put me on Prozac if I were to even lose one of those :D

Again anytime I'm around water or extreme wilderness environments I'll be using one of my lanyards for sure. Losing a really good Spyder is like losing a pet you dearly love IMO.

All my millies have pulls on em. I carry my millies in my back pocket and the pull hangs out of the pocket. NO CLIPS.
