I am interested in learning how to use a milling machine to create folders and blades. Are their any resources (web sites, books, DVDs) that you would suggest I look into?

Thank you in advance for your guidance!

I could not for the life of me remember practicalmachinist . That is probably the best site out there for learning basic machining (and beyond ) .Don't miss that one Houston. All kinds of info

Our local Vo-Tech School has Machine Tool Technology classes at night.
Maybe you have something local as well??

I haven’t seen any milling videos, but have been going through a bunch of lathe videos over the holiday, so I can recommend some people that have videos I liked.

Jose Rodriguez, like most videos for the small machines Jose’s vids are a home made effort, but good quality for that. He does have a fairly heavy accent, I can understand him fine, but some may have trouble. Jose is pretty close to having someone talking to you and explaining what is going on. For lack of a better term, I’d say he has a holistic approach, it isn’t about the cross slide being precisely at this angle, the tool this many degrees below the center line, and the feed exactly this many feet per minute, its more feel, sound, and a nice finish on the part. I’ll buy more of his work.

Rudy Kouhoupt, another obviously home made effort, I have an old vhs version and the sound is pretty rough. Rudy obviously knows what he is doing, but is a bit dry. I’d probably rent, but not buy his other works.

Swarf Rat Enterprises (www.swarfrat.com) Mini Machines 101. Either pro or damn good amateur production, clear video and audio, in fact I think the sound is over dubbed, computer graphics (a little heavy on computer graphics, like in the safety section). Best of class, they have a whole series about the mini mill and if its half as good as the lathe tool building and restoration I just got, its money well spent. You can rent from them at their web sight and if you like the dvd buy it and get credit for the rental price, that says they are pretty confident in the product.

Someone here posted this a few days ago, http://smartflix.com I haven’t tried them yet, I’ll have to wait till the semester is over before I start any new projects. I have done quite a bit of business with little machine shop and they have been great.

Thank you for all the great references. I've picked up the two books from Don Robinson and they have already proven to be invaluable. If anybody else has additional resources, please add them!
