I've been looking for some rather large ammo cans for long term storage. Have a few "treasures" that need a secure home. In discovered the 120mm cans, measure 32" long. Also discovered the SAW cans (bigger than the 50 cal. cans). Has anyone else ever used a can this big?

I've used a lot of them. The 40mm cans are a nice size for things other then ammo and other loose small items.

With the larger cans, you need to ask yourself if they will get too heavy to lift, Will things move around in the can enough to be damaged, and how will I remove the humidity?

The big 120mm can will be bolted to the wall or ceiling someplace. The smaller cans will be stacked on a shelf.

Humidity? Good thought. Sounds like a topic for another thread. I actually didn't give that a thought.

Desiccant is something a lot of people forget about. If all you are storing are some wrenches or similar treasures, then maybe it's a don't care.

You need to consider what long term storage in changing temperatures will do to your treasures since ammo cans typically aren't stored in your house. I'll skip pickup beds but, I've seen cans too hot to hold with bare hands in the summer and approaching zero in the winter. That does unexpected things to air borne humidity.
