I am racking my brain on which is better for my darling twin 9's and my 2. What is less harmful to the knife and you, and what is more cost effective if shtf and there is a lack of knife oil left on this planet..ask yourself that one...not to sound paranoid about that.

I use mineral oil, not harmful, and safe to eat.

Works on your steel.

Mineral oil is GREAT stuff.....Vaseline is good too.....Mineral oil is reputed to be the main ingredient in many gun oils.....I use it in a spray can on everything in the shop as well as the my edc pistols.....

All Best....

I also started using mineral oil on all of my knives a while ago. Just makes it easy not having to think about what oil you did or didn't use if you happen to cut food with it.

Mineral oil seems to do a fine job of protecting against rust, and Hoppes just tastes pretty bad.....

If SHTF EOTWAWKI I would save the gun oil for my guns..... a rusty knife can still make a nice weapon :D

Mineral oil but I do use olive oil in the kitchen just because I need to get some mineral oil to keep in there.

I know that some folks will diss WD-40, but it consists primarily of mineral oil and mineral spirits. I use it on everything, though some folks say it will get tacky over extended time. I have not found that, but who knows.

Basically, any kind of oil will prevent or eliminate rust, from motor oil to 3-in-1.

If the S really does hit the fan, this will be the last of your worries. :)

Gotta have some respect for the blade...and if you do? Then the blade will have respect for you. Have a good day everyone.
