Mineral talc (soapstone) for knife handles?

Has anyone here ever used soapstone for a knife handle?
Is this a good idea or bad?

I have a nice piece that I would like to use on a wall hanger art knife.
I realize that it is not the most stable material but can it be used this way?
Any thoughts?

Phillip, I used some black alabaster once, its almost as soft as that soapstone, and if ya want some I still got a big chunk out in the shop...

Working this stuff is fun, its sorta like working half way between wood and stone...

It is quite porous so you may be able to thin down an epoxy or urethane thin enough to soak in to strengthen it, The stuff is strong enough in one way but if you shock it <drop> it will shatter like a chunk of chalk..

If ya want a chunk of the black stuff I will hack ya off a peice and bring it to Blade for ya... Just let me know!.
