Mini A-100 finish question

I try not to be the "is something wrong with my knife?" guy too often, but It's been a while since I've owned a Mini A-100 and I just bought one second-hand and I'm wondering about the finishing on the spine. As you can see in the picture the blade section forward of the thumb disc appears to be almost polished while the section behind the disc, where the jimping is, looks to be dark stonewashed. I've never seen this "two-tone" finish on an A-100 before and I was just wondering is this how they come new or is it a modification by the previous owner?

Thanks for the reply. The stonewash finish adds a nice amount of friction to the jimping.
