Mini A100s @ EKI

Thanks for the heads up... I had to restrain myself however. If it were the SF one I probably wouldn't haven been able to though.

I was fortunate to get one of the SFs. Aside from the rare re-issue of the Mini, I fully get why they're so desirable. It's such a great little knife. I like it so much, that I ordered the black version as well. Get one before they're gone for who knows how long.

I wish you hadn't posted this! I was unable to find the mini from the main menu, is this a secret?

I just ordered the last one in black. I wanted it in stonewashed but I'll take what I can get.

I saw that "one left." I thought it was beautiful. I'm thinking of customizing it with different scales. Congratulations. Who knows when the next re-issue will appear.

What does Emerson use to make the blade black?

Found this in an obvious place, the Emerson site's FAQ:
What finish do you use on your blades?
We are currently using what is called a ceramic finish on our blades. The trade name is Cerracoat. It is used on automotive parts like racing headers. This baked on finish provides good corrosion resistance and high lubricity. it is hard and durable yet it will still scratch just like the blued surface of a gun. The coating will wear away with use, over time, and if you cut extremely abrasive materials it will scratch or wear more rapidly. Our warranty does not cover scratches or wear on the blade.

But then on the same site in the get to know your knife it says what you just mentioned above. Doesn't seem like a big deal as the steel is stain-less to begin with. I was actually more curious if it would wear off.

It will show wear in several ways, wearing off from cutting or contacting hard/abrasive substances or getting a polished look from low abrasive contact (common around the thumb stud). It can also chip, typically at the vertex of right angles (blade spine, choil area, wave-shaped feature, etc.). That said, it is a very durable coating considering the uses to which the knives are put.

This was from the very first time I used the knife. I was cutting through some crappy old carpet squares that were loaded with sand too. The edge was trashed after about 12" of cutting but just light scratching to the coating. Rayster scales BTW : )

I got mine Monday after an unexplained delay with the postal service. I'd been wanting one since I first heard of it a year-and-a-half ago, but I couldn't find one and sufficed with the Benchmade Valet which has a similar minimalist profile. I thought I wouldn't like the black coating on the blade but it's a lot more tasteful than I had expected so I'll hold off on trying to remove it. Perhaps because it's a smaller, simply shaped knife the black coating doesn't give it a "tactical" feel. It came sharp out of the box too.
