Mini AFCK vs. Mini Pika II

I recently found a good used mini AFCK. It has remarkable ergos, as everyone says. I am hesitant to use it as my edc, however, because I cannot replace it, or at least not easily or at a reasonable price.

I read somewhere that the Pika was based off of the AFCK. Is this true? Does anyone have a sense of how their ergos compare with the original?

Use it man,i got a gun dealer close that has several mini afck, these are in half serr edge though.......

Can you provide some info on that dealer. Pm me if you want. How much is he charging?

I would say use it. No point in letting it sit in a drawer never to see the light of day. As for the pika, I remember reading that after the afck was discontinued all the leftover blades were used in the pika models, not sure if that's true or not. I haven't handled either model but the ergos look somewhat comparable.

That can't be true. The AFCK was a liner lock and the Pika is a lock back.

Benchmade did make a low-budget version of the AFCK in a zytel handled lock back called the Ascent. They might share the same blade as the Pika, but since the Pika is a Chinese knife there wouldn't be any reason, since I doubt BM shipped old jigs and tooling over there.

THE ASCENT IS LIKE THE ENDURA LINE AMERICAN MADE,BM KILLED EM AND WENT OVER SEAS :barf:,THE PIKA IS THE CHEAP KNOCK OFF OF THE ASCENT SERIES....

I don't have an AFCK.

I do have a mini-Pika II and an Ascent. Very different knives. Both are lockbacks.

I remember reading that the blade shape of the Mini-Pika II is very similar to that of the AFCK, even though the locks are different. (I happen to think the blade shape of the Mini-Pika II is totally awesome, BTW.)

If it were I and I liked the AFCK, I would carry the AFCK.

However, if you can't bring yourself to do it, I do recommend the Mini-Pika II. The steel is good, with edge retention a bit below that of 440C, but better than AUS8 or 8Cr14MoV. The design is good. Clip can be changed to tip up or tip down for both left and right hand carry.

The Ascent is nice too. But it's a different style.

I love and carry my original AFCK that I've had for 10 years. I had a D2 (M2?) bladed AXIS model that stayed in the glovebox of my Jeep until I rolled it and it was lost. My biggest loss in a knife :( I say use it!

Between the two I would use an 812 or 814 mini AFCK any day over the later Pika's. In between, I search for the older Ascents, which use ATS-34 and make for great utility knives. There's my .02.

yeah, most $100 knives are a lot nicer than $25 knives.
