I am going to buy on of these knives soon and I just wanted to know what everyone thinks of them. I had a full sized one time but I thought it was to big, I like a smaller knife so I think I will like this knife. Is it the best mid sized folder for the money? Thanks.

I have one and I like it. I made a few small mods to make it more comfy. Is it the best folder for it's size? I wouldn't call it the best. I would say it is claose to the top. Part of it's problem is the fact the liners are much thinner and the lock flexes a bit under pressure. I haven't had it fail, But it is scary.

My 812S was my second BM. Mine is over six years old, the tip is rounded off, and the clip got ripped off in a wreck five years ago when I was ejected from the car and bounced along I59 (knife stayed in my pocket!). The liner still hits dead center on the tang, and there is no blade play. I
CAN make the lock fail with hand pressure, now, though. Great little knife. I still use it for a "beater" at work. Six years, and still going. I would get the plain edge if I had it to do all over again.
As much as I like it, it's almost the same size as my 940, which has a stronger tip, Axis lock, carries tip-up, and is real pretty, too.
"Best" varies from one person to the other, but both of these are excellent knives.

I like mine. The clip gets in the way a bit more than on the full sized one, but that's a small thing. The blade is great, the handle size better than the full-sized one and so on.

The bigger thing seems to be that the liner spring is often mis-set. Mine was over sprung and ground the ball detent down to where it is no longer effective. The high spring also made unlocking a real pain, as someone mentioned in the BM forum on this topic you posted there.

I wouldn't buy one unless I got to handle it extensively in the store. Bring a T10 driver with you so you can twiddle with the pivot tension.

With the high or low spring problems, pivot tension can mask those to a certain degree. Adjust the pivot some and see what behavior develops. Mine completely lacks the sweet spot of smooth swing without play that a good liner lock should have. To test for this, you have to hold the lock against the scale as you move the blade without the added tension from the locking liner. BM has said they will fix mine if I send it back to them.

Lastly, the mini AFCK has more reports of lock failure with age and wear than its big brother.

So, yes, it can be a good knife. You need to be picky in choosing the one you will own. And you should put it through the standard battery of liner lock tests on a regular basis so you know when it starts to go bad.

OwenM, you can easily grind a notch in the clip for your finger. That's what I did with mine and it feels much better. If you are careful, you only remove the black from the edge. That usually is covered by material anyway.

i love my mini-afck. i havent had any problems with my lock though it hasnt been
used excessively.
major plusses are the hole for opening
and it cuts better than a lot of other
knives i own

I love the mini AFCK. It's darn near perfect in its class. So-called "tactical" knives are rather "fashion-driven" and in a world where models come and go almost as fast as women's shoe styles, the AFCK and the mini AFCK have been strong sellers for many years. Poor Benchmade. They're sort of stuck like Coca Cola. The old product is so good, that they have to keep making it. I hate it when that happens.

The AFCK and mini in all of their variants are one of the most popular modern folding knive designs and that is not without reason. Get one. You will love it.

I want to echo Chuck's comments. I really, really like my Mini-AFCK. Mine is in M2 high speed tool steel. It's three years old and still an awesome daily carry knife. I like it so much I've given three others as gifts.

Great steel. Great handle ergonomics. Very good build quality. A great knife!
