 What's happening with the Buck Mini Alpha Hunter?
It used to be made of ATS34 then in a Cabella Catalogue it said S30V and on the Buck Website it now says 154CM!!!
Do they actually now make it in all three steels?

Oh, that explains that then!
I wonder how it compares to the one in 154CM?
Iv'e often wondered why they don't do a Kydex sheath as well so you could use it as a Necker?

By the way, ATS-34 and 154CM are essentially the same steel. In the beginning there was 154CM made in the USA and discovered by Bob Loveless for making custom knives. Somehow the quality of 154CM went down and people switched to the Japanese equivalent, ATS-34. The quality and availability of 154CM has gone back up in recent years and American manufacturers have been drifting from using ATS-34 to 154CM. So basically Buck hasn't changed changed steels at all. They have switched from a Japanese to an American source for their primary steel and make a premium S30V version for Cabellas.

I don't know about Cabelas Buck knife heat treat but the S30v steel of my Manix absolutely rocks!Talk about staying sharp.I use the heck out of that blade and it stays shaving sharp a long time. The only steel that hangs with S30v in my poinion is Ritters M2 Griptilian.

Thats the myth, the truth is that CM stopped making them in sizes workable for stock removal knifemakers. They recently remaking them in sizes for knifemakers as most big customers like Benchmade are using them in quantities that makes it profitable for the rpoduction of 154cm.

I heard that Buck switched to 154CM from ATS34 because they mark all their blades made in the US with a USA stamp. Since the ATS34 came from Japan, they were kind of on the line of being legally able to use the USA stamp. They switched the the 154CM, like you all said, basically the same steel, and our now in full compliance with the laws with the same level of quality product.

Or maybe I just dreamed that....

so cm got bm and buck to use their 154cm and started making them in sizes for the stock removals.
