Looking for a good value Mini mill / drill for slotting guards making folders and doing fullers
Prefer 110v but 220 would work Needs to have an r8 spindle
Someone have a preference or one you wish you would have bought instead :D

the usual advice i see is to get the biggest one you can afford. i have the grizzly go781 but its a small one, just above the mini mill, about 160lbs. it can use the R8 or drill chuck. its ok for slotting guards and making guard curves, but you have to go slower and make more shallow cuts than a real bridgeport mill or it will chatter.

I have the grizzly G0759. It works for what I need it to do for fixed blades. (I don't make folders at this point). I also got lucky n found it on Craigslist never used 2Grand flat. Do I wish I had a bigger mill with a bigger table..... Yes. But the GO759 was probably the biggest mill I could get In my basement. Also if your not a machinist, I recommend to get a DRO. It makes life why easier for me.

How about doing Fullers in D2?
Most of the small mills should be able to cut a Fuller in Annealed D2 without much problem. The speed and amount of torque that the motor on the smaller machines may be a limiting factor on how fast you can cut the fuller and depth of cut. Chatter is also common on the smaller machines they just don't have the rigidity and mass to overcome deep cuts with large end mills.
