Mini Copperhead or Mini Trapper?

Looking to get another Case knife. The only one I have is a NRA Comm. Muskrat that doesn't leave the box. I really would like something with a Wharncliffe blade for maybe trying to get into some wood carving. Trying being the key word. I really fell in love with the navy blue mini copperhead. Then I spied the Mini trapper with the Wharncliffe and clip blades. How would each of them feel in the hand and carry? I'm kinda set on the copperhead, but could be swayed if the trapper is going to be more comfortable in the hand and pocket. Talk to me. Would love some comparo pics if someone has both. Thanks

If it's the wharnicliff blade on the mini-trapper that has your attention, get that one or better yet get a copperhead with a wharni.
I do not have a mini copperhead so here's pics of my two regular copperheads (3 7/8").

Sorry for all the white in the pics, I'm trying to get better....

I really like my single blade wharncliffe mini trapper. It's a little thinner and if you use it for a long time that second blade in the handle isn't there to dig into your hand

Yeah, those sway backs are nice too. I really like that navy blue look. Thanks for the pic. What's the knife on the right. Tiny Trapper???

If I were after a single bladed knife, I'd go for the mini copperhead.
For a two bladed knife, I'd get the mini wharncliffe trapper :)

The mini trapper(3 1/2) is larger than the mini copperhead(3 1/8) . Trapper is also wider, and heavier.
Both are good knives, so I would go with what size you want.

Mini Copperhead IS two blade. Pen and Wharncliffe. I'm starting to think now either Mini Copperhead or Swayback Gent now. I like the shape of the blade better on the Gent than on the Mini Trapper. My birthday is coming up soon and I need to let my wife know what I want:D

Yes tiny trapper single blade wharncliffe as near as I can tell they only made one run 2007 found this one on accident. Best thing about it is while trying to find out more about it I found Blade Forums!

That's a hard one to answer, I'd say it depends on what size you like. The Mini Copperhead is a sweet little knife and goes to work with me a lot, its single spring design sits quietly even in a pair of khakis but is ready for whatever slicing job you have:

The Mini Trapper is a bigger knife, one that happily goes on Scout camping trips with me and is up to some pretty tough jobs:

The perfect in between IMHO is the Swayback, what a great pattern:

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them

WillieD,

I just took a quick picture showing the Mini Trapper, Mini Copperhead, and Tiny Trapper together (I apologize for the poor lighting, but hope that something is better than nothing. If I can get clearer pictures during the day, I'll switch 'em out.)

And here's one more, with the Swayback Jack included:

Given what you've said about wanting to (try to) carve, I'd recommend a knife with a bigger/wider handle than the Mini Copperhead, and certainly bigger than the Tiny Trapper. Mind you, both are among my favorite knives for reasons of their own, but not for whittling or carving or extended in-hand use.

I think Case's Mini Wharncliffe Trapper is among their best offerings.

That said, take a look at the Swayback Jack above: like the Mini Copperhead, it's got a true wharncliffe (as opposed to the lambsfoot shape on the trappers), but its handle has more to hold onto-- especially in the Jack configuration. I really like the two-bladed Jack's additional width over that of the single-bladed Gent, and as you can see the secondary pen lies neatly within the handle when using the wharncliffe main.

Thanks for all the pictures, I am sure they are helpful to Willie, they are also reviving my interest in the mini trapper. That single blade wharncliffe has been calling my name for months.

I must resist.

I usually pick stag but P~ that Blue Mini Trapper is IMO one of the best looking knives Case makes.. I swear every time you post a pic of it I like it a little more.

Thanks for all the pics guys. I decided to stick with navy, so it a Gent or mini copperhead. I'll let the wife surprise me. Guess I'm off to the Pandora store to get her HER birthday present now;)

I actually got confused with the mini copperlock :p
Then, for a two bladed knife, I'd get the mini wharncliffe trapper. I prefer jackknives over pen knives. And, being honest, I'd get a SBJ rather than any of the two
