Mini-CQC 15 has restored my interest in Emerson.
Let me preface by saying that I hold no knife make/maker/model as "the best" and take each offering as a stand alone item and judge based on such criteria.
Over the years I've tried many models but kept none for one reason or another. While I don't have a huge collection, if I don't use it or find something "special" about it, I'll move it along. This tended to be what happened with all my previous Emerson knives (CQC-10, Commander, A100, Mini-Commander, CQC-7).
Enters the Mini CQC-15. I've always wanted to try one but they always seemed to be out of stock everywhere. And we know when a run is out, it can be a long time before you see more again. Good news is that a run seems to be out so I grabbed a 2014 model with standoffs. Wow! This is like no previous Emerson I ever owned. Tight, smooth, centered, solid and excellent fit/finish (other than the light name stamping, but who cares). Still breaking it in, but it is butter smooth. It feels almost as buttery as my large micarta Insingo Sebenza (no exaggeration).
I'm liking it so much I have a 2014 Commander coming as well. Hoping the Commander is as high end feeling as the mini 15. Well done Emerson! Stepping up the game and much appreciated.
