Mini CQC-7 for EDC?

Hi - I currently EDC an Emerson Traveler, and a Mini A100, depending on which one I grab first. I'm of a smaller build and like a smaller knife for EDC.

As with most folks on the forum, I'm always wanting another knife and I've been looking at the Mini CQC-7.

Having not carried or used a tanto blade, my question would be, is it suitable for daily EDC tasks. Usual day to day type knife chores. In my mind, it seems more designed for self defense but I could be way off there.

Just wanted to get you guys opinion.

Thanks!

Joe

PS - off topic, but can someone tell me what the spacer material is made from? Doesn't seem quite like plastic, but I don't know and am curious.

It's probably my beefiness EDC, but I have on in my weekly rotation. I like tanto blades, so I have a few of them in my collection.

The Mini 7 is one of those knives I wish I had never sold. I really miss mine. :(

I used to edc it all the time. The size was perfect and the tanto blade was actually better for my types of cutting tasks. Your experience may vary when it comes to tantos but for me tanto blades generally work better for edc. I really love the secondary point on them. It really comes in handy for fast cutting through boxes and blister packages.

That being said I currently edc a Super CQC-7 (it's one of my favorite knives). :D However if I had another mini right now I'd probably go back to it.

My advice to you get any size CQC-7 you want. They will all serve you well and on top of that it is a knife with a long and well known history of nothing but prestige and respect.

Oh and the spacer material is made of G10 (same as the scales). If you don't like it you can get another one custom made in sculpted titanium from a few knife pimpers around here.

I've carried a full size 7 for years! The only thing I would mention would be the chisel grind on the 7. If you need to make long straight cuts as it has a tendency to curve due to the grind; straight cuts can be done, but with a little effort.

I've had many Emersons, but have never parted with the 7. I'll echo what MMF said, it's a true classic!

Well you guys were no help at all!

You were supposed to tell me they were the worst knives out there. :)

Now I have no choice but to buy one. Oh well. Dang.

Thanks for the info!

Joe

I have a couple reasons why you may want to choose a non-tanto blade. When I got my first regular size 7, I made it a black-blade tanto. After a few years, I got another regular size 7 but in a stonewashed spear point. In my experience with both tips, the spear point ended up being much more edc-friendly as well as sheople-friendly. In addition, in my enlightened state of Illinois, if I ever get hassled by the police over my knife -- it would be much more difficult to explain away a black tanto blade.

That's just my experience and opinion. YMMV.

Amici,
I have two, one in black and another stonewashed that was modified for southpaw carry.. I like them, and like to consider them my mainstays when I want a minimalist approach regarding my EDC for any given day. They feel good in the hand, and I have no problems with the tanto style blades or the chisel grind either..

Cheers,
Serge
