Mini Cyclone AO defect

I just received a mini cyclone which I got for my father's birthday tomorrow. I took it out of the box and the assisted opening worked the first time and that was it, it no longer engages the spring. Is there any easy fix for this, or am I stuck sending this in?? I'd rather not pay to ship it out because this is a new out of the box knife.

It maybe silly, but do you know about assist/manual switch? The switch is working only when knife is opened.
"Simply flip the roll-switch on the knife's spine to choose manual opening or to engage the Cyclone's ambidextrous SpeedSafe system."

Yeah, I tried messing with the switch. I have one of the Ti/zdp cyclones of my own, so I'm familiar with how it should work.

Looking into the knife, there is a piece of metal that the rod comes into contact with and it seems to just slip by, so that it doesn't engage the spring. If I push the metal piece down before closing, then the rod engages just fine. This has to be repeated every time though for it to work.

Great news: I decided to open it up and have a look at the on/off mechanism. The bar only needed slight tweaking (bending) and it now works flawlessly..so for anyways. Looks like my dad will be getting his knife tomorrow after all! Now that that's off my shoulders, I can enjoy my new VG-10 Ladybug that came along with it. :D It's my first spyderco, other than the byrd starling.

Thanks Kershaw for making some of the best knives around, I am not let down.

Just an update, I ended up sending it in, as it quit working shortly after I "fixed it". Ah well.

doncha hate that feeling? you get something new, it doesn't work how it should, you tweak it, it works great, you go to use it or show off your handywork, and it breaks agian?

hope ya get it back soon!

Lol, yeah it was a really bad feeling as I was ready to give the knife to my dad. Looks like the knife is arriving today at its destination so it shouldn't be too long before it comes back.

Well, I got a package from Kershaw today...and the package contained a regular cyclone, clearly the wrong knife. :thumbdn: I'm done sending things back. So much for that. I'll probably call them after my dad get's to see it, however, he didn't want anything larger than the mini. :grumpy:

dam that sucks, sometimes just a few bad things happen and that person has the worst view of the company, but dont fell that way, its just a series of unfortunate events. It happens

mintstick, sorry that you received the wrong knife.

Why don't you call and talk to warranty about this issue? We're really good at keeping customers satified.

It seems he likes this knife fine, no hard feelings. Mistakes happen. Btw, didn't mean for my last post to sound too negative, was just a bit upset. Thanks
