Mini CYCLONE issue, EASY TO FIX

Not sure if anyone has had an issue with the "ON/Off" function failing.... (apart from the misunderstanding that the blade must be open to toggle). I just had one failing on me right out of the box. This is something that would be easy to pass inspection since it did work every 4-5 times. Anyway, when "on" the torsion bar end in the back spacer is supposed to engage a small bar also located in the spacer to load it for the auto assist action. That small bar was not completely engaging, so the torsion bar would either totally bypass it or fail (release early) mid-closing of the blade. It's an easy fix as that little bar can be removed and bent slightly so that it fully engages the torsion bar. I'm sure Kershaw would be more than willing to tweak this for you if you don't feel comfortable, but if you need help with this similar issue, just let me know. I don't like to post pictures of internal mechanisms without permission from Kershaw. The Mini Cyclone is one of the best little folders out there!!!!

I also found that if you decide on keeping the on/off to either on or off, you can tighten the grip screw directly above the on/off wheel and lock the setting in-place, so it can't accidently be moved. I "locked" mine to the "on" position, as I found that sometimes my (large, beefy) hand would shift the wheel to "off". Also, since I'm a "lefty", the on/off wheel is located near the bottom edge of the spine (when holding the knife in my left-hand), in constant direct contact with my hand, thus making it easier for me to accidently turn the on/off wheel when the knife is shifted forward or backward in my grip.

OregonEdge: Good thread.

glockman99: Great suggestion. I just received my mini so I will have to try this out. :)

Very nice post, OE, and a great suggestion, Glock. I haven't experienced this problem yet, but I emailed a link to this thread to myself for future use, if necessary.

Thanks Again!

i dont have either cyclone so can you explain this on/off.
can you turn off the ao?
Yes...The on/off wheel is to turn the AO feature on or off. This allows the user to turn off the AO so opening the knife won't freak-out nearby "sheeple" who might think it's an illegal "switchblade".

Once the A/O is On and the knife is closed, you have to open it in that mode. You can't turn it off, then open it manually.

Yah, I know...You have to plan ahead and switch it "off" before you run into the "sheeple", so I guess you have to have some sort of "sheeple radar". But then, I hardly ever am around those kind of people, and if I am, it's THEIR problem, not mine.
