Ok, I had a few questions about the Mini Cyclone.

1. Is the blade flat or hollow ground?

2. Are there any models besides the ZDP-189 model with a framelock?

3. Is the handle slippery? Being full metal, that was my main concern about this knife.

I can't find a place that still has the ZDP-189 version, and it's probably way over my budget anyways, so the model I am thinking about is the model 1635.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey Guilo,

Hollow grind, if memory serves me correctly.

The MC Ti/ZDP was the only frame lock, but the liners in the others are well made and lock up very solid. None of mine have any blade play or lock issues, even after some very hard use.

While the handle doesn't have the extra grippiness (is that a word?) that G-10 or trac-tec might add, the ergonomics of the knife handle itself provides a natural fit in your hand. I've never experienced a problem with any of the Cyclones even when working in wet conditions, but if you feel a little help is needed, a piece of skateboard tape cut to fit and applied to the non-clip side will do the trick.

The Ti/ZDP's are becoming harder and harder to find, even at a price of around $ 150 (I'm currently looking for another), but I think you'll be well served with the 1635 Mini Cyclone. At it's price point, the MC is hard to beat. Great materials, fit and finish, and Kershaw's CS is a huge plus, should you ever run into problems down the road.

For the record, I own 3 Mini Cyclones in Ti/ZDP, 2 regular MC's, the 1635 and 1635BLK, and 2 full sized ones, the 1630 and 1630BLK.

Hope this helps! You won't be disappointed!

hey brad....i bought the last one in zdp from NGK on my trip but i promised it to a friend of mine....something about a girl who asks for a mini-zdp....i can't say no. so if you find any others lemme know, ill paypal you money if need be. i need a backup. i use one at work all day every day and after 6 months its starting to show its wear and tear. i need a backup for the eventuality that i have a problem i can't just order a part for and i need to send my baby off for service.

thanks,

Matt

You found one and...and...GAVE IT AWAY?!?

That's like finding a Dodo egg, and thinking "Man I'm gonna have me a BIG ol omelet tomorrow morning!"

Matt, I thought I trained you better than that! :D

Who and where are they? I've got some "friends" that might pay them a visit! She's a girl! Give her the Leek in ZDP!

i didn't give it away, she bought it.....chicks with money and a taste for knives are hot :)

im only male you know...

oh but to answer or address your post guilo. all cyclones are awesome. the zdp is the best investment in a user ever...but the minis are awesome and the full sizes are beasts. but the handles are not slippery surprisingly. all good investments and just plain fun.

sheesh brad, i would never be that generous to someone who wasnt also having my child. rules you guys out im afraid....but there are some things that just get a guy right there.

i will PM you pics if you desire, but others who might be jealous are sitting next to me lol

Great...a bunch of Mini Slades running amok all over this place, derailing threads, etc...

OOPS! Just passed 1500! Guess we'll all have to wait for 2000 now...

the zdp/ti version is definitely worth the extra price. knifeworks.com should have one in stock soon, I realized having three copies was a little overkill and sent one back.

Yeah, if I could afford the zdp/ti model, I'd get it, but it's over my price limit.

I had another question... what grind type does the Lahar have? It looks like a hollow grind in the pictures, but I may be wrong.
