It that time of the month again and I NEED another knife. The Benchmade Mini,
I'm sure would be a good choice, but the Blackhawk Crucible Folder PL interests me. I have not seen any reviews on it. Search feature not working for me at this time. Need to upgrade. I can pick up the Blackhawk with an ATS-34 blade for about $20 more then the DeJavoo with the S30V steel. The steel is not an issue as they will not replace my EDC (sm Sebbie) at this time. Any thoughts?
Thanks: confused:

The Dejavoo is a bit more "elegant" if that term can be applied. Being a Lum design, it's a real beauty. It's also well-made & durable. The Crucible knives are another animal- built for hard use with less emphasis on aesthetics. Question remains- what would be the intended use?

They're quite different.
The first is slim and elegant, the second...not.
Two good knives, in their different way to be.
( For me, I'll take the mini dejavoo )

The intended use would be to replace my EDC every now and then. Just something different. And I NEED another knife. You all should know what that is like. I guess I am looking for more info on the Blackhawk as I know the DeJavoo is good.

I don't have either of the knife you mentioned. I do have a blackhawk kalista and my wife has a benchmade.

The blackhawk knifes imo is a step down in quality compare to the butterfly and spider conterparts.

The primary grind is not even on my kalista, and the componets, while strong, is not the best fitting.

Comparing it to my other EDC, the mini manix, the quality difference is noticable. Hence i was able to tell my wife that the Kali is a cheapy 20 dollar knife and she believes me.

I don't think it matters for a user who's gonna be falling skids of boxes, but it's something to consider, especially if you are going to spend extra bucks on them.

i have one of the blackhawk crucible folder and it is a quality knife. it's a bear of a knife with a big beefy handle and a short wide blade.:)

Jack lowe,
Since you have one was the blade easy to get use to being wider then most with a blade only 3.25" long. Also what blade material is yours? ATS-34 or the newer VG-10. How is the edge holding ability? The knife looks different then most of that size to me and I think that is what caught my attention with it.
Thanks
Ron

it's ATS-34. seems to hold an edge pretty good. i think it looks different is because the blade is so wide!:)

havent handled a deejavoo but i do like the crucible, have handled a couple and do like them, also cool ya can get a fixed balde version which is identical, anyway i like 'em, only con is the might be a little overpriced, the fixed blade certainly is imho.

Thanks for all the replies. I had not heard anything about the Blackhawk brand before.
Since I can get the Blackhawk for almost 50% off MSRP I think I will opt for that now to take care of my problem.(my need for another knife now) The Dejavoo can be purchased when this issue hits me again as I'm sure it will.

i have the full size dejavoo and it is my edc right now. its the smoothest folder ive ever handled.

I wish someone had an in depth review of the black hawk... I really like the design and it looks like a hell of a knife with great materials... I just might have to buy one.. and make a review for you guys...

I should be ordering the Blackhawk Monday along with the Junkyard Dog II w/ composite blade. Let you know about the Blackhawk after using it awhile. My birthday next Sat. so I have to get some knives as my family think I have too many already. Yea right! What have they been smoking?

I have just gotten a Blackhawk Crucible II and like you the blade shape intrigued me, and it was designed by Kelly McCrann, who seems to know his business. Any way the knife is very strong and well built, I got mine for $62, and am quite happy with it, in fact my oldest son seen it and will probably buy him one for either Christmas or Birthday as they are both in December. I also love the handel material very textured and solid in the hand. Stay Safe

Don't know about the mini but my full size Dejavoo is one smooth sucker; becoming convinced Benchmade know what they are doing; recently got a Ritter Griptillian which is also one Hell of a knife.
