I was cruising through YouTube and ran into a review of mini-drawered toolboxes. The influencer was comparing the expensive Snap-On with other much cheaper versions. What caught my eye was the fact the person doing the review kept his folding knife collection in one. The drawers are large enough to store fixed sheath knives as well. They are made in Steel, or wood depending on how much you want to spend. Except for the overpriced Snap-On, the metal toolboxs are all about $50 bucks. The wooden ones are about $130 bucks.

You can get a miniature box at Lowe's for like $15-$20.
My brother had and used one of them for his knives and it worked great!

Yes he tested the Lowe’s Kobalt toolboxes as well they ran around $29 bucks. Now I am trying to decide which one to get.

I’ve got the same Kobalt box which is great for knives. Harbor freights’ US general started making them that have bearings in the drawers and the Kobalt doesn’t - they just slide on tracks. If I was to get another one it would the US general mini toolbox.

Here is what I use. It's a cheapo Husky I picked up @ Lowes or HD for $200 marked down because of the minor scratch & dent that's on the back you can't see. I store all my folder boxes in the bottom drawers and my knife tools, and miscellaneous crap, in the top drawer.

I'd go with that PIT, because the HF and the Kobalt have tops that are extremely shallow.
I ran across the Kobalt at lowes for $20 a couple years ago and picked it up on impulse, I tried to like it but just have yet to find a good practical use because they end up being too small from an inefficient use of space.
I have a smaller box that is more practical because it uses space more efficiently.

I looked into those 5 drawer PIT mini boxes and ended up ordering one, an Ebay seller had them for $44 with free shipping.
I just ordered the last one they had though.

I just realized that these 5 drawer mini tool boxes are actually smaller than the KOBALT and US GENERAL.

The KOBALT is 6x6x11 with drawers that are 1x5x9 and 2x5x9 , and a 3/4×6×11

This is the biggest problem I have with the Kobalt, the top is only 3/4 deep and while you get an extra 3/4 into the lid this folded over lip means you need to keep things away from the edges.
For me it made storing things in the top problematic.

I really don't know what I'll use this PIT mini box for, but I think having 5 drawers that are 1" deep is going to prove much better even though they're a little smaller in length and width.
I suspect that like the Kobalt the drawers probably won't pull out that far and I'll want to modify the drawers to come all the way out.

I don't really know the story of the P.I.T brand or who the actual manufacturer is, but they also rebrand these miniature 3 drawer top boxes that were originally made for Snapon ( they are absolutely identical) who sells them for way too much.

Even this I think would be better than the Kobalt and US general 2 drawer boxes.

Better yet you can add the top box to your little 5 drawer cab, or buy the complete stack for $80-$100.

If I like the 5 drawer I bought and actually find it practically useful I may think about adding the top box just because it would be so cool.

It will certainly be cool but ai just don't know if it could possibly be practical enough to be worth the money.

All of these can be smaller than they look in the photos. I bought the Lowes version right before Christmas for $20, I put watches in the top, folding knives in the top drawer and some other tools in the lower drawer. Also beware that some of the models have drawers that only come out about 2/3 of the way so it can be hard to get things in there. If you search on the big river website for "mini toolbox" you can find even more models.

I use a Craftsman branded box that I picked up on sale a few years ago. Here it is in my home office. (took the emblem off for a cleaner look)
