Evolution happens. Here's the new lightweight Mini Dyad, next to the Micarta version:

The Lightweight weighs in at 1 1/2 ounces on my postal scale - half an ounce lighter than the original, and I do actually notice the difference. It's about 2mm thinner, and about 3mm longer than the original (with the extra length going into the plain edge). The original has a couple of steel liners that are absent in the Lightweight.

The Lightweight doesn't have a clip, so here's a Spyderco pocket knife that actually wants to ride in the traditional pocket knife position at the bottom of the pocket!

The original is a pair of front locks, while the lightweight is a pair of rear locks. In either case, it's the lock release that's in line with the blade that you need to press.

And, as the little warning in the package says, opening both blades at once for any purpose other than display is not a good idea.

James - thanx. nice pic. Interesting piece to carry as well. Socially acceptable anywhere. 4" of cutting edge. a new "good ol' boy" piece for the millenium.

(sorry for the sales pitch).

I'm wondering what is the blade steel on the new version?
A Spyderco without a clip--there's a concept that'll take me some getting used to.

My wife would have NO problem with the lack of clip. She recognized the utility of the two blade system and grabbed the micarta one I got at SFO this last August. It resides in that "black hole" refers to as 'purse'
I should not complain as I have asked for its serrated blade a couple times when all I had on me was a plainedged "clipper"

(considering and collating, butt also looking for its big brother)
