Well, with all the Mini-Dyad threads here, I just had to add another.

So, what is your opinion about which of these two are better? I don't own either, but I've read the following good points about each:

Micarta: fancier, has liners, has clip.

Lightweight: lighter, bigger holes, cheaper.

What's the vote?

I might throw in that the micarta version is scheduled to be discontinued when current inventory is gone.

I also would like to add that the lite weight version has what we call a "bypass lock". The lever that is farther back is the unlocking lever and the front part of the lever is cut out to permit access to the opposite lever. It was invented by one of our "in-house" R & D guys and patents are pending. It provides for a stronger lock. Something that Spyderco is always trying to improve in our folders.

Sal,

Cool. A "bypass lock". Now I'm probably going to have to get both just to compare them!

I just got the micarta so I guess I have to put my 2 cents in.

I don't know how others feel but I look on Micarta as one step up from a "plastic" handle and one step below a natural material like bone, horn or stag. It has visual interest, heft and a natural feel but has the stability and durability of a synthetic. My decision to buy was made instantly when I read that the Micarta Mini Dyad was being replaced in the line by a Zytel model.

I think that the Zytel model will probably be more "perfected" but it wouldn't appeal to me.

I keep 4 knives on top of my dresser to pick from when I get up, from an M2 Mini AFCK to a Victorinix Classic and I have yet to leave the house without the Dyad since I got it.
