mini forge.

I HAVE ALMOST finshed my mini forge,ron reill burner,works great,has anyone heat treated a knive with their forge,if so please any details would be great.can hardly wait to forge some steel.. royboy

I heat treat in my forge (gas)
Use a slow fire crank the pressure down and cut back the air. It will take a bit of fussing with the air intake and the gas control, bring it gradually to non magnetic.

Keep the blade moving so as not to overheat the tip. Pull the blade out and check with the magnet, after you do it a few times you will get a feel for it, note the color when it reaches non mag. Watch for the shadow, just as it reaches non mag a shadow will pass across the blade, some guys have trouble seeing it, it is another indicator of non mag, I still relie on the magnet.

Keep the quench tank close to hand. Pull it from the forge and quench. DON'T walk across the shop to the tank.
