There's been alot of talk about forges here lately so I took a picture of my newest one. Its made from a 1 gallon propane bottle and lined with cerramic insulation. I forged an 8" blade in it this morning. For most my forge work this will be the one I'm going to use. Its large enough to do hawks in and it gets good mileage. Actually made it for my demo forge but its to good not to use all the time. When I took the picture it had been running for around 1 minute.

What kind of burner did you use on that Ray?

I believe its one of these: http://www.frontiernet.net/~gnreil/design2.shtml#Rex Matt of Pinoy Knives gave me a forge with this burner welded onto it. Didn't care for the forge, actually think the burner was mounted wrong but it works fine in the little forge. Tried a verticle out of this size bottle but I just couldn't get it to fire up right. This little horizontal is the best forge I've made so far. Its got a back door for longer work but its plugged most the time.

Richard also shows a good idea - a firebrick external platform lined up with the forge center!

Stacy, Actually there red clay brick left over from a remodel I did years ago. Since there just below the forge openning they won't melt and it sure is nice to have all that flat space in front. Just happend to think thats the only flat space I have and nothing is stacked up on it. :D

Hey Rey
it's About time you finally got that forge problem worked out .
Glad to help a "Brother " in real need. now get out there and start moving metal you old cus you got a show to get ready for:D see ya there

Matt, I'll see you at OKCA Show. Can't remember if you said you pulled out or not. I'll be doing the forging demo both days starting at 11am for just an hour. Now if this forge don't get things hot I'll have to come up with a solar forge. Who knows maybe I'll need one that will work off rain.

Very nice. You can set your coffee off to the side on the "platform" and keep it nice and hot. :D

Raymond,

Thanks a bunch. I know you are busy, but if you could send a few more pictures showing the forge from various angles it would be really great.

Looks like a TRex burner--very nice,

John

Hey John, Here's some picture's from both sides. These should show you what your wanting to see. Nothing complicated, heck I couldn't make one if they were.

Lookin productive bro!Any news on the insurance sttlement and future shop build?Nice pictures to,you can still see the heat in the hawks!

How did you know it was safe to cut a hole in the bottom of that tank? It looks like a great idea, but as a newb, I'd have been paranoid cutting into it.

Nice forge Ray and the makings of another great loking hawk in progress...can't wait!

After I had used all the gas I could with this bottle I let it set about 4 months with the valve wide open. Before cutting I'll drill a couple 1/8" holes and let it set a few more days. Kind of lost track over the years making the forges out of the old bottles but I'd guess I've made over ten this way.
