Just sharing the results from my first dye attempt.
Red RIT Dyemore w heated vinegar and salt.
Bugout is a little darker than I hoped, but I should have been more watchful in the first couple minutes. After two minutes it was already this dark.
I would test every 30 seconds next time.
Also needed to be rinsed and washed several times to get any lingering red dye completely off.
This plum purple is a great option instead of black, I think.
Baby blue Mini Grip turned a great blueberry purple right away, in the first 10 seconds or so, but I was unsure of exactly how long you NEED to keep it in the solution to get any color to set, so this is about 90 seconds.
I moved the scales around a lot with this one, flipping them and stirring them. I also spent more time rinsing them in cool water, with soap, and scrubbing them with a dish scrub brush afterwards and it helped really get any lingering red off of them. Turned out fairly "cabernet" purple.
I would say with both of them I'm very happy but would have gone with less time for each. Its pretty hard to manage with this Dyemore because it goes very quickly... seems to be a great product for plastics and such.
Picture is in natural light.
