I have a couple questions about this new knife of mine. First, I accidentally dropped it earlier and now if I shake the knife a little it has a little rattle, does anyone know what this might be? And second, what kind of maitenance does the axis lock require if any? Thanks in advance for the help guys!

Rattle is probably the floating stop pin, functioning normally.

Maintenance, clean it if you want to, oil it if you want to.

Pretty simple knives, treat it like any other tool or kitchen knife.

If you take your knife apart, you void any warranty service. If you can't reassemble the knife, you will have to pay a fee to have it reassembled. Kind of a necessity though, as many people have no idea what they are doing and end up with a pile of parts. As far as maintenance is concerned, learn to sharpen your knives. Practice on a kitchen knife. Read through the posts to build your own knowledge on sharpening and maintenance.

Thanks. I had no intention of taking it apart, because I know for sure that I wouldn't be able to put it back together lol. But I was just curious if there were any internal components that needed to be oiled.

Do you thinking a floating stop pin that rattles should be sent back?

No, it's designed that way.

Hold the knife (while closed) and shake it, if the rattle sounds like it's near the lock, it's 99% your stop pin operating as designed. The other 1%, maybe you have the pivot super loose and are hearing the PB washer shake between the tang and the liner, that would pretty much require the other screws to be loose too. :p

You could wash it in the sink with warm soapy water. Open it and close it a few dozen times while under the water. Rinse it out with clean cold water. Maybe use some compressed/canned air to clear the water out. That should be about all that you need really. You cAn oil the pivot, but I find that it's really not a necessary step.

Floating stop pin is a design element. The purposse is so thT thqe blade will not hit the pin in the exact same place every time it's opened. Emerson knives have this feature and in my opinion it's brilliant. It's a shame that you don't see this on more knives that use the Walker liner lock or the Reeve Integral lock. Enjoy your knife, I love the minigrip.

Mine must all be broken- none of them rattle! Great knives!

Every now and then I would blow through the handle like a harmonica to get dust/lint out. That's all I did and the knife worked like a charm for the few years I had it.
