Mini-grip too small?

I picked up a Mini-Grip in D2 from Cabelas. I have a Cabelas Visa that gives me points to buy stuff with, so it cost me $0.

I've had three other Benchmades (two 940's and a full size Grip). I was never impressed with the sharpness of those BM's from the factory. In fact, I was disappointed.

However, this Mini-Grip in D2 came extremely sharp out of the box. I was impressed. However, it seems slightly too small for my hands. I've been carrying it for two days and trying to get used to it, but it still seems too small in the handle.

Anyone else have that issue?

I actually find the size nearly ideal for EDC usage (the handle could perhaps be just the tiniest bit larger). However, there are many people that prefer larger knives or simply have bigger hands than I do, and who find the full-sized version more to their liking.

I love the mini-grip, it fits nicely in dress slacks in is still large enough to be useful. But I can see that it would seem small if you carried the 940 and a full size grip.

For about a week now I’ve been trying to talk myself out of ordering the D2 from Cabela’s.

It is actually one of my favorite EDC's principally because of the size. If you like the razor sharpness of the D2 in a larger version, purchase Cabella's Griptillian.

I have one and I like it, my friend just bought one today and right now thinks its one of the best EDC's he's ever bought.

I find the Mini-Grip size just right, the handle could be about 1/4in. longer, but it works just fine for me as is. If you decide you don't like your Mini-Grip, I would take it off of your hands for you:D .

I carried one everyday for about three years. It took a while to get used to the size, I've got big hands. Its a great knife. As BJE mentioned, if they were just about a 1/4 inch longer it would be perfect IMO.

I have a couple, yes, they are nice, the D2 rocks, I could stand to see another 1/4 inch in handle length myself.

The mini-grip is a bit small but mine came exceptionally sharp as well and I've gotten used to its small size. =)

I think I'll try it for a few more days. If I can't get used to the small size, I'll trade it in on a full size Grip.

+1 to that. The blade is roughly the same size as a Spye Delica, but the handle seems shorter.

i've heard good things about the full-size Grip, I just don't have another ~$70 to drop on one.

The handle of the minigrip is a little small for man hands. It forces my last two fingers together. An acceptable compromise for the size though.

I liked my D2 mini, but I too found it too small. Ended up selling it. I do carry a large grip frequently. The large is perfect for me.

The handle is not shorter than a Delica, but the handle near the blade forces the index finger lower (away from the blade) as compared to the Delica. The result is that my pinky is forced off the end of the handle (a 3 finger grip).

BM could easily redesign the handle to allow for a full grip. Maybe my Dremel will do the job :D

The Mini would be an ideal EDC with a full grip handle IMO.

My Mini is forced to spend its life in the sock drawer-----while my full size is carried daily.

So YES----the Mini is too small.

For an EDC, I also think it it too small.

But it great if I feel I need a bigger blade with me than my small SAK but can't have it clipped to my pocket. Just take the clip off, put the screws back in their holes, and consider it a "pocket knife" for those "special occasions".

Regards

My Mini Grip also felt a little short in the handle when I first got it, however after a little time I adjusted to the feel of the handle. It is a great EDC. It is probably the favorite of the Benchmades that I have which are all larger than the Mini.

Agreed on the 1/4" short, but for me, the Mini-Grip and a Delica are my "goto" blades for EDC. That blade size is about perfect for the office environment I work in. I do carry larger blades in my Maxpedition, though, for the larger tasks.

I agree that the Mini-Grips are just a little too short in the handle.
I really liked mine but I traded them all away because I never carried them.
