I just received a brand new mini-griptilian 556, serrated, from GPknives. The knife is truly a joy to hold and play with, but I detected a minor flaw in the blade.
Near the tip of the blade, about .25" down, there is a slight concave flow to the edge. Basically, it looks like the operator who was making the blade started to curve the blade about .25" too short, then realized that it had to be longer, so flattened out the curve to make it .25" longer.
The concave flow is slightly detectable by hand as I trace my finger over the edge back and forth, but is barely visible by eye.
I'd like to get advice from you as to how big of a concern this is. Of course we all love to have 100% perfection in our blades, but if this is not going to affect utility / future sharpening, then I can live with the imperfection. This is going to be my EDC so if it's useful it's fine.
But if there are any concerns from you guys as to the functionality of the blade being reduced or future maintenance being more cumbersome, then maybe I would consider contacting the dealer and sending it back for an exchange.
Please let me know if I'm making a too big of a deal of this and not worry about it, or if I should consider sending it back in for replacement (extra shipping at my cost).
Here are some pictures I took. Like I said it's very hard to see the depression in the edge, but it's there.
