hello every1,
i have decided to buy a mini griptilian to use as my edc knife but i was just wondering which blade style is best?

Do you ask the difference between a hollow ground to a flat ground blade?

The former mini grips feature flat ground blade in two styles, maybe tanto has added later.

Now the choice is between a hollow ground sheepfoot, a flat ground clip point and a (i guess) flat ground tanto style.

Even though i have read always good things about the hollow ground sheepfoot blade i tend towards the more solid flat ground baldes. As long as there is no flat sheep, i would take the clip point.

I have several mini-G's but the only ones I carry and use are the mini-Ritters. They seem to have the most useful blade shape to me, at least for the kinds of cutting I do. I find that I do far more slicing than I do stabbing, even with blister packs and such, so the Ritter blade shape is very useful.

The Ritters also have a very strong tip, although it isn't as "pointy" as the standard mini-G blade profile. And, I really like flat ground blades. They seem to slice better and sharpen up more easily than anything else.

Mmm. Difficult choice. They all work really well. Out of the 556 and 555HG, I prefer the 556 for its drop point, flat sabre grind and thumb studs.

thanx for the advice i was gonna go for the tanto but now the drop point seems the better way to go

I've had several tantos in FBs and folders. I don't find them useful for my needs, and they're a PITA for me to sharpen since I don't do freehand (at least, not very well). I'll take a drop point profile over anything else.

That's the Mini RSK Mk1 (Benchmade model 558) commonly known as a Mini Ritter Grip, in high flat sabre-ground S30V steel.

I prefer the Ritters, but if I had the chance to pick up a 550/555 or 551/556 in either 440C or 154CM, for cheap, I would in a heartbeat. Maybe five years ago, I found a used 550S with a Benchmade sheath for about 30 bucks at a flea market. Great knife, another of those should've kept scenarios. Later, I had a 551 440C and a beat up used 556 440C, but decided I needed 154CM versions, which led me to the Ritter designs. My Ritters are probably the only folders right now I really beat on.
