Mini-griptilian Options?

I'm a little confused by all the options available in the mini-griptilian universe. So far as I can tell, there are plain edge blades, combo blades, regular profile blades, tanto profile blades, Ritter profile blades, blades with holes, and blades with studs. Furthermore, both the blades and the handles are available in various colors and materials.

What I want - I think - is a regular profile, plain edge blade, with a hole instead of a stud. Where can I go to see the best variety of choices in blade steels and colors for that style knife? (I'm partial to black, premium steel blades and OD green handles...)

Are there any important options I've overlooked?

Extra Credit: What's your favorite steel for this particular knife?

Try knifeworks ot New Graham - great folks at both places. I prefer a mini-grip with a sheepsfoot blade, oval hole and 154CM steel.

That's the combo that will make it difficult, none of the premium steel versions to the mini-grip' come with the thumbhole.

The Cabellas 556BKODD2 is probably the closest to what you want, (plain edge, coated blade , OD handles -only it has thumstuds. It is an exclusive through Cabellas website. Cheaper alternative, 556BK has 154cm steel and black handle.

The 555SBKHGOD Has the hole, but has a hollowground blade and is partially serrated in the coated blade.

I dont have a prefeence on the steel but most will probably favor the d2 used in Cabellas griptillian

Thanks for all the input - I suppose we should add MDP (modified drop point) to the list of blade profiles.

I found one that's almost a perfect match - the 555BTOD - it's made with their standard steel, which is fine, but of course it is discontinued. The Cabella's version looks tempting, too. I was hoping to avoid the stud but it's not a deal breaker.

I would say to get the blade you want- stud or hole won't matter- once you have it, you won't use either.

Got to love the Axis lock!

My grip with the stud is that it wears a hole in your pocket. Maybe I'll just grind it off...

You can unscrew the thumb stud with two T6 Torx drivers.

However this will leave a small non-functional circular hole in the blade and you will be stalked by Spyderco fanboys.

you might consider putting a zip tie through the hole after removing the thumb stud. It's an old solution used by many.

I went with the 556: Uncoated modified drop-point in 154CM.

My grip with the stud is that it wears a hole in your pocket.
Been carrying a variety of clipped folders for 2-1/2 years. One of them a Spyderco Delica 4, but the other three being knives with studs. And, for the past couple weeks or so, a BM Mini-Grip 556. Haven't worn any holes in my pants or jeans pockets yet.

I would think the clip, and the wear from pulling a clipped knife on and off your pocket, would do the pocket in long before a thumbstud would.

Maybe I'll just grind it off...
Unscrewing it would probably be easier, quicker, and less inclined to damage the knife ;)
