Mini Griptilian or Spyderco Chaparral- sharpest?

That varies knife to knife as they are sharpened by people and not machines. It would be safe to say that the Spyderco will probably be sharper out of box than the Benchmade. Although I have had my last Benchmade, an 810 Contego, come sharper than any other knife I have bought. My advice: Don't let out of box sharpness be what makes the decision for what knife to buy, buy the knife that you like more. Both will serve you well.

Likely the Chap with that FFG and thin edge. Only takes 5 minutes to get that mini right though.

OK, thanks.
Im looking for a smallish type EDC knife for my pocket at work. I work at a educational think tank with many liberals, so the knife must be fairly discreet.
Which one is the better quailty, or both really equal? The Chaparral does appear more refined looking, so that is a plus.

In that setting I think the chaparral would be best. Excellent fit and finish, classy looks, and it's a MEAN cutter with that 2mm full flat ground blade. The mini grip is great too, but for an office setting, I think the chaparral is a better fit.

You know, you could do a good thing there. And after that, introduce them to Glocks.

And yeah, I have a Chaparral, but sold my Grips. The Grip's handle feels much too fat in my hand.

I think Spyderco sharpens to 30 degrees inclusive with a 40 degree inclusive microbevel and Benchmade is just straight 40 degrees. They might have the same or close relative sharpness but the Spyderco will cut better.

My Spyderco Chap and PM2 though were MUCH MUCH MUCH sharper out of the box than my mini-barrage and 530.

Chaparral.

And if you sharpen the Grip, the thin bladed Chaharral will still slice better. Not saying its better, but if you're only talking about sharp, and slicing ability it wins hands down.

The Chap is a Gent's knife and a helluva an Irish pennant remover. Since you are talking "office" it wins no doubt. If I had to choose which one to throw in my pocket for a weekend in the woods then the choice wouldn't be as easy.
