Anyone used a Mini Grip for a work knife if so how well is it holding up. I would be using the knife for stripping wires, cutting cardboard, scrapping, and maybe skinning some deer, and what ever else i may need it for. It would also be my edc. If anyone has used one hard please let me know how well you like it.

The griptilians are absolutely excellent user knives. The Ritter mini in particular is one of my all time favorites. In stock form their nothing fancy, but they are very well made, durable, excellently designed knives.

This one is a little bit fancy, but a user none the less...m4 ritter mini with cuscadi cf micarta scales:

The Griptilian's a forum favorite for a reason. It'll do everything you mentioned. (Though I'd think twice about skinning a deer with it. There's plenty of stuff that could get trapped behind those hollow handle scales. The knife could do it, definitely, but it'd be annoying to clean out.)

No hard use for my mini grip yet. It travels along with a Cryo or Waved Delica in my checked luggage. I leave my EDCs at home and pack these smaller knives so I can have something in my pocket that won't offend any silly knife laws at my destination.

The mini grip is a fine knife for how I use it.

I got my first mini grip years ago. It had a 440C blade with BM's coating...

At the time, I was working for a freight company, and i used that knife a lot. I cut anything, and everything I need to. I never tried it on a deer, but I'm sure it would work just fine.

The knife held up very well. I never chipped an edge, and it held an edge very well. Surprisingly the coating held up extremely well. I've had quite a few Benchmades. All have had the axis lock. It is a great locking system, and never failed. I also have never had an omega spring break, on any of my knives.

My current mini grip is from BM's build a grip program, and has an S30V blade.

I carried a grip for the first 5 months of my deployment in Afghanistan. I beat the hell out of it too, used it to open mres, boxes, cut 550 cord, hell i would even throw it at a bit of plywood outside our tent everyday. The black coating wore off on the blade but other than that the knife flys open and still locks up solid. The 154cm is easy to sharpen and holds an edge well. One of my favorite blades.

Hi,

I have one for about half a year now as an EDC. It does a lot of food prep (veggies, fruit, meat), a lot of whittling, and the occasional odd job around the house (cardboard, wire stripping, cutting misc. stuff). I dropped it a few times and it has a few dings on the handle from that. The blade stays sharp for long, it only needs the occasional touch up.

ETA: The lockup is fantastic. Still tight. I especially like the fact that it closes with one hand easily!

Thanks guys for all the comments and pictures. I think i might have to get one and try it out.

I have been putting one through it's paces on the farm I work on for the past month or so and it is holding up fine. I believe for the price it is a good choice, my main work knife is a zt 0350 but it needs to be reprofiled and the sharpmaker just isnt up to the task... So until I get a wicked edge the mini grip is finding it's way into my hand more and more often.

Hella, I loved my large with wilkins grips and that thing was as sturdy as any other.

A wonderful knife that was so damn comfortable.

There is a reason they are good sellers and also a reason BM keeps the base models "Plain Jane". I have dug weeds, whittled, cut plastic, rope, cardboard, food, etc.. and they have never failed. Some folks gripe about the scales but even though they don't dazzle they are plenty serviceable. It's the one knife that I have always had even though I have traded and sold quite a few.

Mike, How do you like the S30v compared to 154cm?

I have to be honest, I really haven't used the S30V enough, for tasks that would test edge retention, to know if there is much difference, long term.

So far all I've done is lightly strop it. It really didn't need it yet, it just gave me something to do :D
I will say, maybe it is just mine, but the S30V has as edge that is "toothier", than the 154's and 440C I have had. Not a bad thing I guess, just different.

The Pink mini Grip is the only knife I can get my wife to carry/use. Winner for me!

I have an M390 mini grip. It's stays sharp and comfortable to use for destroying cardboard all day long if you must. I carry it to work sometimes but prefer a longer blade. It works though, no complaints it's a great knife.

Mine is a regular edc and sees a fair amount of use. I like it so much I have given away or traded all of my other modern, one-handed folders. It is a great, good quality knife without being too dear to put to hard work.

I wish there were some nice, custom scales available for it that didn't cost a gazillion dollars though.
