Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone here has been able to take apart and reassemble a mini-grip.

I just tried right now and had a hell of a time putting it back together...

In fact I haven'e been able to, it's proving to be incredibly hard to do.

I'm absolutely frustrated and clueless about what to do can anyone help me?

Can anyone give me some advice please?

Took a full size apart, getting the washers lined back up was a chore.

Just kept at it until they lined up!

I have taken all my axis locks fully apart and put them back together with no problems. I have found them to be very easy to work with compared to some lockbacks. Where are you having the problem, the axis mechanism, washers?

I'm having trouble getting the washers, blade and handle lined up and together with the screw and anchor through it.

Every time I go to put them in and the screw through they either don't line up or get pushed out of position or they keep falling out and I took one completely apart even the wires out of the axis mechanism.

So I don't know what to do at this point.

Thank you.

ok I got it through now the the axis thing keeps coming off as I try to reassemble the the knife by stacking one part at a time.

You must be good with this stuff and experienced because I have encountered problem after problem after problem.

The oil causing it to slip, parts coming out of place while I'm trying to get the next one in place:mad:

I am getting very frustrated and have to stop before i put my fist through the wall.:mad::mad:

Whenever I do one of these "projects" (my last was a Gerber Emerson), I find that "calm diligence" is a requisite.

Frustration, yes - but the reward is that the next time it will be quicker and involve less frustration.

Reassemble the handle on its own, leaving the blade and pivot assembly to the end.

When inserting blade and washers into the handle get them in as far as you can by hand.

Then, whilst holding the Axis studs back with one hand (important bit!), use a plastic or wood toothpick and get the toothpick in through the pivot hole in the handle, the washers and the blade.

Whilst still holding the Axis studs back, in a circular motion with the toothpick centralize the washers and blade and then gently insert the female part of the pivot assembly. If the washers and blade are properly lined up the female will go through without having to force it.

A dab of blue Loctite on the male screw of the pivot, and adjust pivot tension.
You will end up with a pivot that glides smoothly with zero play

If you're having trouble with the blade and washers part you can always try putting it together "sandwich" style - right scale, axis bar, liner, washer, blade, washer, liner, scale. It's not any harder just different. Some benchmades have to be done this way due to a pivot that will not come out without taking out the liners, like on my 525 pictured here...

Just take your time.

I'd just package it up and send it back to Benchmade. They say they have a good warranty.

His warranty is gone now since he has disassembled it, but for a small fee they will put it back together. I do not have any experience with the mini-Grip, but I have disassembled my full size without any problems. I think the "sandwich" style mentioned by gmarthur would be the easiest way to put it back together at this point.
