You know those movies in which people are using cheap flashlights that are flickering on and off for no reason, and they keep tapping them to get them back on? Well guess what is happening with my relatively new Maglight? I unscrewed the head to see if it was stuck or something, it seems to spring in and out OK, batteries are new, etc. Everything looks OK inside. But if I touch the bulb or plastic base with my fingernail, just barely, it will go on and off. Usually it just flickers when I try to use it, but sometimes it doesn't come on at all. Yay for Mag Instrument.

Call Mag industries. They'll fix it or just give you a new one. Years ago before the led craze, I had a problem with a mag AA mini like you describe. I sent it in, and got a brand new one back in the mail. Another time I dropped one on a concrete driveway and cracked the lens. I called them on the phone and they just sent me a new lens.

They are very reputable people to deal with.

You know, I had the very same problem, and the strangest thing fixed it. I replaced the regular alkaline batteries with so rechargeables, and badabing, problem solved.

I noticed that the regular batteries dropped right in, but the rechargeables fit more snugly, as though they're very slightly larger. That's the only thing I can figure makes the difference. Anyway, now the light works flawlessly.

My friend got one of the 3 AA mini mag LED's and it is suffering the same problem. His you have to turn it just right to get it to stay on or it will flicker or normal just not come on.

Was thinking of getting one but not if its a common problem...

Mine has served me well for weeks now. I have also dropped it a few times inadvertently. No problems whatsoever thus far. This Mag AA is a very good bright white light at a sensible using price ($20 at Home Depot). It longer length feature than the original 2 AA model doubles as a fine makeshift impact device. :)

i did the drop in niteize bulb with my aa minimag and it works fine. not as well as some hooky dooky lights but also much cheaper. as mentioned above contact mag and i'm sure they'll take care of you, or if you got it at wally world then just take it back to them for a replacement. later, ahgar

I e-mailed Mag on Friday because I couldn't find the receipt for Walmart. I found it today, so I can try that. Hopefully Walmart isn't getting sick of me returning flashlights yet.

Just to add, I did a few night time commutes with the 3 AA Maglite mounted onto the handlbars of my Cannondale hybrid bike. The superb Twofish brand mounting bracket allows for angle adjustment. Mine was pointed to the asphalt and it did a decent job of illuminating! The Mags 3 watter made a difference. While not used for offroad/ cross, the city streets can cause some pretty good vibration. All has held up without problems.
