Mini Mojo Flipper Lock Mechanism???

Hey everyone -

I've started collecting a number of Kershaws and I just got a Mini Mojo. Well, it is BY FAR The most difficult to open due to the odd locking mechanism on the index finger flipper. In fact, I've had a few instances where I just can't get it to open and I feel like a wuss :p

What gives? Can I remove this piece? Will it break in and get easier? Anyone want to buy it from me (hasn't cut anything yet).

Thanks for the advice!

there is a special way of opening it. its like you need to "feather" it when opening. ull get used to it the more you practice.

Welcome uhmeebuh!

Actually its the easiest opening safetied flipper I've seen!

My girlfriend had the same problem with it though, now she opens it more easily than her Scallion.

First if you haven't already, hold the blade closed and take a close look at the safety. With any luck yours has the word unlock with a curved arrow. The safety moves in an arc exactly like the arrow. Try moving the safety in the direction of the arrow without trying to open the knife, just get a feel for the movement of the safety. It shouldn't be to hard to get the safety to move and it doesn't need to move far. To open the knife at first you may have to use the tip of your finger to pull the safety away, then push down and back on the flipper. Doing it this way, your finger tip moves in a tiny arc, away from and then back toward the knife. Once you really get a feel for the safety you should be able to just pull your fingertip along the spine of the knife to open it. The safety will just catch on your fingertip and disengage.
When you have the hang of it you won't even notice it is there. I think it sort of encourages a proper flipping technique.

thats kinda what i said kneedeep. nice edit too. i could have sworn you took a shot at my hands ;)

you are right though. with practice, the safty becomes a natural part of opening the knife. its the studs that i have a hard time with..........flipper is fun though.

Darn, you noticed that!

I scrolled down too far the first time I read the thread and thought you started it. I should have known, the Baby Boa was next anyway wasn't it?

yes it was. its a month off now. kinda known as a car :( :)

no i didn't start the thread lol. our friend uhmeebuh seems to have. ;)

enjoy the mini mojo. its a good knife. what steel does it have, do you know? its either 13c26 or 440A. whats the date stamped on the blade if you dont know the steel?

Thanks guys!

It's getting easier but it's still not as smooth opening as my Chive, Leek or Spec Bump.

I guess I'll have to practice and learn the knife.

Thanks for the fast response to reduce my buyers remorse!
