I just got a Mini Mojo and have a question. When I go to release the thumb stud lock it seems to be harder than normal. this happens about one out of five times not every time. Should it be lubed? I would appreciate any help. I know SPXTrader is a real fan of this model and I like it. I was hoping it was the Mojito but it was made in 06.

Hey RKH...I've also experienced a few times when the stud lock didn't want to disengage easily. Mostly when the knife was new, and then I discovered that if you twist the stud on it's axis (an off-center or uneven push of the lock as you move it forward toward the tip of the blade), it can be difficult to release. Mine became more tolerable of the twist over time. It's a different locking system, and it does take some getting used to, just like the safety on the flipper.

Work with it for a while, and see if it gets better. This is a great knife for the money, and once accustomed to it, you'll really like it. Hope this helps.............

Oh, and I don't know if you have any other knives with 440A, but you can get this edge wicked sharp. It just takes very light touch-ups more frequently.

Thanks SPXTrader. I like this knife as I like flat knives with a blade around 3 inches. They carry so well. Would lube like Mil-Tec on the spring help. Thanks for your quick reply.

Mil-Tec would work fine. I use Hoppes gun oil (due to it's properties in cold weather) and use a 26 ga. needle and syringe. This needle is the same size as the ones used in flu shots, so it can get into tight places and deliver a very small amount of lube. Over lubrication can cause the action to gum up as it attracts pocket lint, dirt, cardboard fibers, etc, just as it would with any firearm.

Thanks SPXTrader. What I like about Mil-Tec is that it want gum up or attract lint.I enjoy your post about Kershaw knives as well as others as I have become a Kershaw knife addict.

I believe the steel type on the Mojo is 440a and on the Mojito is 13C26. I think the new steel 13C26 has a crisper/grabbier/sharper feel than the 440A. And I think either steel will work fine. I have not seen any online dealers list the Mini Mojito.

i have the mojito. i love that knife. Its so small yet quite usable. How bad is 440A anyways? ive heard crappy things about it but i would be suprised to see a company like kershaw use a steel if they didnt think it had the properties to do the job they use it for. Any ideas fellow kershaw nuts?

From my experience, the 440A will get extremely sharp, but doesn't hold the edge as long as the Sandvik. Also, 440A has a higher Cr content, so in theory it should be a little better at rust prevention.
