I have been looking for a straight edged Mini Nighthawk with the OD handle and black finished blade.

I have not been able to find one, and suspect they may have never made the black finish with anything other than the 50/50 edge.

Has anyone had any experience with the stainless style finish on the Nighthawk and Mini Nighthawk? Is that finish prone to rusting?

How tough is the black finish? I am sure you still have the same rusting problem with the edge.

I am interested b/c this would be for EDC.

How well is the 420 steel holding up? How often is everyone having to resharpen these knives?

Thanks.

I'm not sure of previous models, but the current one is made mainly for Wal-Mart. The coating is partially for rust prevention, but mainly to reduce glare in critical situations. It will scratch fairly easily, but the knife is a user. 420HC is not to be confused with 420 steel which is inferior. Bucks heat treating makes the steel perfom at its best. If you are using the knife, rust is not a problem. Leaving it in a wet environment is. If you store the knife add a light coat of oil to the blade. 420HC is known for not rusting easily.
As to sharpening,it depends on your amount of use. Some will sharpen several times a week and some once a month or so.Hope this helps.
