Alrighty then,

Here's me thinkin: I love the hell out of my Spydie Perrin. I mean seriously love that little sticker, I carry it every day. (it's my constant late night walking companion) I've decided I want to move my relationship with this knife to the next level and carry it all the time as a FB. However I work in an office environment now and no matter where I tec-lok it to my waist someones gonna give me grief about it. It just doesn't look professional to have this thing sitting on my belt. I was looking at setting it up for a static cord draw from the waistband but in my opinion it's just too damn big.
Which brings me to the point of this thread: Has anyone thought of making a smaller version of the Perrin? I was thinking about contacting Mr. Perrin directly and purchasing either one of his custom Street bowies or one of Laci Szabo's Jaws designs that Perrin has built. I just thought I'd throw that one out in here. Maybe Sal could put out a Perrin with say a 3' or 3-3/4' blade length? I'm not really worried about legal issues here I'm just thinking carryability. Me thinks a short one would hide better. Suggestions?

I think its a rockin idea. Would make carring a LOT easier. I agree great design, feels great in the hand but a bit big for my carry tastes. A shorter version would solve that. Good idea!

I would be all over that. The only reason I haven't purchased a Spyderco Perrin is that state law limits me to a 4" blade. :( I can't legally carry the Perrin in its current configuration. A 3" to 3.5" blade would solve my problem for sure.

If you're just talking about carryability then I would suggest contacting River City Sheaths or On Scene Tactical for a proper IWB sheath. I have a IWB sheath for my Perrin from Mike at River City and the thing just dissapears. It's completely comfortable for all day IWB carry. There are no points on the sheath or the handle that poke you at all.

As long as you don't wear your shirt tucked in, a IWB sheath like TOTC said will work just fine. I nearly always carry a 4"+ fixed blade IWB and it disappears under any t-shirt. Currently, it's a Moran and no one is the wiser.

I know this might be blasphemy, but for a smaller FB, I can recommend the Fallkniven WM-1. I often carry one horizontal on my belt.

Sadly it's a dockers and polo shirt kind of office guys, I can't wear my shirt tucked out. The idea is regardless of dress I'd like to see a smaller knife. I can always find a way to conceal a bowie if I choose to but that's not the point. I would like to see a smaller version of this knife simply because A.) I like the design, and B.) smaller is always easier to conceal.

And as a side note for you skinny bastards out there; those of us built more like Lynn Thompson (of Cold Steel) than those of you built like James Keating (of Comtech) find IWB carry a little uncomfortable at times.
(and don't tell me to loose some F*ckin' weight I'm workin on it alright. right after I quit smokin')

((Upon re-reading this post my first thought was " Tucked out?"))

I love the Perrin, it's next on my FB list for acquisition. Have you tried the Ronin? It's smaller and scary sharp. Smaller Perrin would be excellent.

Just for the crowd, I am not Lynn Thompson shaped and I find IWB carry darn uncomfortable. Just can't make it work for me. I like horiz cross draw best.

Yeah, that sounds like a nice addition to the Spydie family. A 3.75" blade would be great, IMO.

Chambers, congrats on quitting smoking!

I have both the Perrin and the Ronin. I love both but the Perrin is more practical for everyday tasks, the Ronin geared more for last ditch defense with its extremely sharp but delicate point. The Ronin also appears large on the belt in its issue sheath due to the TechLock. Worn as a neck knife (its primary method for carry) under the polo would work if concealed carry is legal.

I suggested to Sal that he consider other blades using the Ronin handle which is IMHO the highest quality handle I've ever seen on any fixed blade knife under $ 200. A Perrin bowie type blade of total length of 3.5 inches with a choil to allow choking up for close work (would reduce the cutting edge to about 3 inches)would rock.

Other blades that would work well are Wharncliff and a hawkbill with lesser curvature than the Spyderhawk.

A smaller kydex sheath with a built in loop for horizontal carry or a loop allows various carry modes would make it less imposing to sheeple. Better yet for office carry would be a tooled leather sheath.
