I thought a few words were in order about two DOTD blades that I acquired recently, both by Ram Kumar.
The MiniChirraKnife is a beautiful blade with a fantastic handle and fullers. It's fairly slim by HI standards -- about 1/4" thick for an 18" knife -- and the fullers make it even lighter than one might expect. In the hand it feels like it could do the work of a machete -- fast, light and reasonably long. Most of all it has the heft and feel of a fighting knife. It is similar in many ways to a filipino Kambantuli that I got from TFW a couple of years ago. See the first two pics below.
The Panawalla was a very pleasant surprise. It has an elegant shape, a convenient size and weight, and a nice look with the threaded handle pins. The bolster, buttcap, keeper and pins are all steel. The edge is convex, like all HI blades, but the sides are deeply concave, which is good for chopping and reduces weight. This knife feels very good in the hand.
