Hi all :D

Quick question I am in a position now after my earlier post to maybe get a BM 710 and also one other folder, which to be honest will be the BM Rukus in one form or another...:)

My question is for the slight difference in price is there a huge difference between the mini and full Rukus

Also are there any Sheaths available for the full Rukus even the large nylon BM sheath will not fit this one but I think would be fine for the 710 and the mini Rukus

Thanks
Gav

PS: It is amazing how quicky collecting these things gets into your blood

The full sized Rukus is an inch longer in both the handle and blade, making it 2 inches longer overall than the Mini-Rukus. The difference is very obvious in the hand.

The Rukus is a huge knife for a folder, and gives a sword-like impression when opened. Very much the Crocodile Dundee "Now that's a knoife" thing!

The Mini-Rukus, though it's about half an inch shorter than the 710 in blade, etc, gives the impression of being about the same size as the 710. It's a much more EDCable knife.

I can get pics of the three together, but not until the weekend - sorry!

Grampa, that was very very helpful :D and interesting thats what I love about these forums everyone is so helpful

Ok, the question is I guess as you have all three, do you feel the Full size Rukus is too large??, and does the mini feel like it can do the job? - I do like the idea of a large folder :)

Cheers

I handled both, but I bought the mini. Thelarge is a cool knife, and could be easily carried in a jeans pocket EDC. The mini is by no means small, and I just like the size better. One of the best handles on a production knife ever.

+1, I ended up with the mini too.

My aim is to get the:

Kershaw Spec Bump
Skirmish Full Size
Rukus Full Size
BM710 Full size

Not all at once mind you haha

But also I am very interested in smaller size knives not of the families above if that makes sense, ie not a mini Rukus etc, i like the CRKT M21 even tho it seems others do not, any suggestions on the smaller ones 2-3.5" blade I guess)

Thanks

Have you seen the Ti Bumps? I like them more than I like my Spec. (Framelock vs. Studlock) You should be able to find some still.

I don't fancy sharpening that bump!. The recurve on a BM710 is about as much as I could live with. :p

i have both mini & full size rukus, the mini is definitely easier to carry. the full size is pretty heavy & noticable in the pocket.its a really nicely made knife, smooth opening & closing, very strong.some fault the pocket clip as being flimsy, but i dont have a problem with it........

+1 for goldie.

I love my full size, it's just too cool. But for everyday use, I'd go with the mini.

My full size Rukus still goes any where my S&W .460Mag does. I'll use it this fall to field dress my feral pig after shooting it w/ the SW.

Oilman, you got all the cool knives. You never cease to amaze me. Are those 2 sizes of ti bumps? It could be an illusion. I will be getting one soon.

As for the rukus, I need one of those also. I checked the big one out when it first came out and it is HUGE. Way too much knife for me for an edc. I played with the mini and it is the one for me.

Thanks. If I understand correctly there were 2 Generations of the Ti Bumps with differing grinds. I'm thinking I have one of each Gen. They're the same length and whatnot but have a slightly different blade grind. And they aren't too bad to sharpen if you have a stick setup like the Sharpmaker. You use the corners on the inside curve and the flats on the straight edge. I took mine down to 15 degrees per side without too much of a hassle.

If you plan on carring your knife in anything but dress pants, you will get used to the rukus. After 7 months edc'ing the full size rukus it feels like carring a endura, its just the weight you will have to adjust to. I actually like the size and it dosent feel all that bigger to me than an endura... its liek a sword at first but it wears off. Buy it, its a good knife.

My full size Rukus still goes any where my S&W .460Mag does
a man after my own heart...I have both full size and mini rukus (and a 460 S&W mag) I use my full size as my primary blade though. A lot of people around here think it is too large, however, I find it about perfect. My vote lies solidly with the full size, though you would be happy with either.

i feel your pain! i just purchased my first benchmade which was a mini-rukus. its all the knife you will ever need but for some strange reason i find myself wanting more bm knives. i sit around and open and close my mini-rukus in amazement of how smooth it is. the axis lock makes it open as fast or faster than any auto i own. enjoy which ever one you choose ...........
