Mini Socom - As bad as the archives would have you believe ?

I've been trawling through the archives looking for info on the MT Mini Socom, and one thing that pretty much remains constant through alot of the posts is the reliability of the lock.

Is the liner lock on the mini socom really that bad, or are the bad locks rarities ?

How are they compared to other liner locks ?

I have my eye on picking one of these up, and am hoping it is a good choice before they disappear for good (they're discontinued arent they ?)

BTW - being small etc is not an issue, the fact its around 3" is handy as I'm in the UK. (shame it would still be illegal to carry coz of the lock tho :p)

I'm not sure where you are reading about the liner lock of the Microtech Mini-SOCOM having problems? I've owned several and never experienced any type of loose lock or lockup troubles! In fact I would say Microtech has just about one of the best liner lock systems on the market!
I have a slightly used one with partial serrated silver nitrate coated blade, I would be willing to sell you for a great price. If you don't like it, send it back. These are great daily carry knives and will probably outlast you.;)

Thanks for the reply.
The info about the dodgy lockup I found whilst searching through this and the reviews forum. Seemed to be alot of mention of spine whack failures etc.
BUT, after seeing a few more, there is also alot of praise out there for this knife.

Thanks for your comments, and as for your offer, I'll pass, I'm leaning towards the plain black blade, and I have a thing about buying everything new, I know, I'm a picky S.O.B :)

Cheers

James

My Mini-Socom had the strongest liner lock that I've ever owned. I definitely would have trusted my fingers to that lock. My only beef with the knife was that it was a bit too "mini" for my hands, and that's why I traded it away.

Likewise, I liked everything except the handle was too small and I'm not a big person.

I hate to be the negative one here but I had three before I gave up on them. All 3 had bad locks.

2 would fail from moderate pressure on the blade spine with my hand and the third the lock slid with a noticeable click but wouldn't fail. I sent that one back to MT and they corrected the sliding lock but then it would fail the same as the first 2.

I have had other MT's that had no problems but the M-SOCOM's just didn't work for me.

YMMV

I have a Mini-SOCOM that is one of the best knives that I own. Absolutely reliable lock, and top-of-the-line quality and workmanship.

I guess it depends on each knife. I had one for about a week, then decided it was just too small for my hands. My roommate had a purple handled one and the screw that held the liner came loose and it was never the same after that.
