Welcome everybody,

Just want to share my experiences in Microtech knives with you.
Several months ago I bought mini socom elite auto. Unfortunately quality was far from expected, blade play up-down (SIC!). Also, safety blocks on the top of the handle sucked - it was too loose to play it's role properly. Send to MT, 3 months +, still in "repair".
Bought manual version of this knife, to be exact: tan camo.
I tought the quality problems was the matter of accident but NO! Sadly, in NIB microtech after 15, 20 openings also appeared blade play up-down! Impermissible! Framelock is very tough to operate, it IS safe but not enough choil to unlock it easily, though .But, I can get used to this. Blade play is the thing I won't tolerate. I have not seen this kind of problem in any BM, Kershaw...my previous MT (Auto Amph, LCC, UDT)was perfect done. What the hell is with their quality control??!!

I don't want to send this knife to them, half a year of waiting does not stimulate me. I have to solve the problem on my own. I think I can put some kind of substance in stop pin area, but dunno what is the best one. Aestethical look is second important issue.

By the way: I'm not gonna buy MT anymore.

That's disturbing. I have a few MT's (Amphib, SE, Socom) and they are all perfect in every way. I have been anxious to get my hands on a Mini SE, but you have given me pause. Have you tried asking over at: www.microholics.org ? There are some real MT experts over there.

I haven't had any problems with my MT's and I have put some of them through some fairly hard use. I'm not surprised that somewhere along the line, MT would have some QC problems. Evry company has had some QC problems, including the two companies you have mentioned. If you really want to void you're warranty and try to solve your problem on your own, good luck. Personally, I would send it back to MT and have them deal with the problem and alert them to the QC contoversy. You have an LCC, UDT and Amphibian to take thier place so you really should miss your kid's sized MTs a great deal.

I was looked at a MiniSocom Elite recently and I too noticed the play in the blade. The frame lock was very hard to disengage too. Of course I had to pass on that one. P.S. Benchmade rules!:D

If you do some reading over at Microholics.org, you'll see a lot of dissatisfaction, even among the hardcore Microtech enthusiasts. MT has had problems with QC lately, and there have always been complaints about their customer service (I, fortunately, have not had to send anything in... yet).

This is somewhat disturbing at the price point that MT exists at. They are going head to head with MODs and upper-level Spydercos. I mention those 2 companies because I have had personal experience with their customer service, and it has been top notch.

Bottom line, if you don't like the quality and the CS sucks, let your dollars do the talking and buy something else. There are too many good knives out there to be buying less than perfect knives from companies who do not care (or who do not seem to care) about the customer.

Yes, YOU haven't got any problems with MT. You are lucky man, congratulations. But imagine, there are people who buys brand new CFO II and it fails after few openings! And they have to wait months after sending it to MT headquarters. 500 dollars knife! Don't want to tell that every knife has QC probs. But 1/50 is often enough. Dagger Logo? Claw Logo? Sorry, to me it's a bullshit, it's just aggresively marketing, weakly correlated with highter quality.
Every company has quality problems, but not every company ignores customer's voice. And what is funny, I am not the only one with such a ride(notice, the situation happened TWICE). It's very annoying because I like the design. Mini socom fits perfectly in my hand, has very nice look. If someone wants to buy this knife I can advice to handle it by himself, check the lock, and if nothing rattles, no bladeplay at all - BUY IT. Purchasing in 'rubber-stamp' style can make oneself unhappy, though. Thanks for posts.
