Mini Socom tough to open

I just had my new Mini SOCOM worked on at the factory. They fixed the overly hard liner lock, but still this knife does not open smoothly like silk. This is my first MicroTech. The blade is incredibly sharp and large for this size folder!

Should it open with a thumb flick like my Kershaw Hawk? Or will it slowly "break in" or wear in so that it opens quick and easy?

Well, I'm not entirely sure, but I believe they don't use washers and use a circular raised section in the aluminum handles to replace the washers. The result seems to be less smoothness, but less blade play.

I wish more manufacturers -- especially the high end ones -- would use adjustable fasteners (allen, torx, etc.) to allow the user to adjust for blade tension, change handles, make adjustments, cleaning disassembly, etc. Just my personal opinion.

BTW: anyone know where I can buy the thin synthetic washers used by knife companies?

I had mini-socom for a while. I felt I just didn't see anything great in it. Sold it and moved on.

Full Tang...I think you can get those washer from Jantz supply or Koval.

I just got my first MT on a trade...Its a 12/97 SOCOM..Took it apart and polished blade and all contact parts to 800 grit..lil silicon spray....and woohoo....nice....But yes it does open harder than most..I belive it because the thumbstud is so close to the axis point. The lock was also hard....sanded with 400-800 grip CAREFULLY so as not to remove to much and cause blade play..works great.

P.S. I lost one of them damn lil torx screws....MT shipped a new one no Q? asked no money charged....Great people..
