Interested in these for pocket fixed blade EDC, but the bead blast gives me pause. I’ve read before that bead blast finishes tend to be more susceptible to rust. Have you folks experienced any issues with the mini tac series?

Your knife will be in it's sheath and the handle has scales so the only area in danger of exposure would be the edge of the handle not covered by the scales.

I had a Rajah III that I had clipped in the pocket of a pair of Wrangler denim shorts. I stopped by the gym on a warm day and was only there for an hour, just enough time to break a sweat. My clothes weren't soaking but damp. Well when I took the knife out of my pocket the side of the blade that was against my thigh had a light orange dusting of rust. The portion covered by the handle was fine but that exposed section of blade wasn't. I wiped it away but it reappeared. So I sprayed it with a blast of WD40 and that seemed to do the trick.

What I found so amazing about the incident is just how quickly the rust formed. It made me wonder what do people do to protect their blades that live in a hot and humid environment?

Thanks for the inputs folks

So basically, these bead blast finishes will only rust if neglected?

On the old AUS8A Voyager , summertime pocket carry sweat would cause some pinpoint spots of grayish white surface rust .

Easy to remove and mostly prevent with simple metal polish .

User knife for me with kinda indifferent maintenance and still no big problem . YMMV , as always . ;)

I'm probably the laziest person here for maintenance. Or at least I go in and out of that. I've gotten noticeable rust specks on a Spyderco Reslience, an ESEE 4, and an old Rajah 2. I'm actually amazed that I don't find more rust. I think that the Rajah is B.B. and it's the only AUS8 that I've managed to rust a bit. Even so, it was light and easily removed. And this is with likely below average maintenance compared to other folks.

Well, eyeballing the Kyoto or Mini Leatherneck as a pocket utility blade, either would probably be a serviceable knife. They'll open boxes and cut stuff just fine and resharpening shouldn't be an issue. But I don't really see the need for these when we already have the Tuff Lite.
